I have a 2006 DTX in blue and i have to say am a little disappointed with its performance in standard form.
So far have only removed the snorkel under the seat, which does give it a nice tone. I am definately going the earth the wire hopefully giving the beast more poke.
Can anyone give me a clue as to the best/easiest place to earth the wire. Ideally it will be somewhere out of the way, nice and discreet. I thought perhaps on the negative on the battery?? At least this way i will know its definately earthed.
I will be fitting a full dep in due course.
Any other advice would be very gratefully received.
i just connected it to the bit of the metal that the lower screw of the head light cowl screws too and it works fine.. the difference is night and day restricted mine would barely push 6th but after earthing the wire it's alot faster.. i also got a full dep system and removed the snokel and it's a quite a quick bike now and sounds really nice too
First I cut the green and black wire going into the white connecting block & soldered a longer piece of wire to it.
I then wrapped the join with black tape. Then i sanded the lower bracket (what the headlight cowl screws onto) until it was back to bear metal. I then put the headlight cowl back on putting a metal washer on also trapping the wire to ensure a good earth on the lower bracket.
Been out on the bike since and she pulls nicely upto 70mph and easily onto 75mph.... I would not be surprised to see 80mph given enough road.
Will be saving for the dep now.....or maybe an arrow??
the DEP sounds really nice i got mine here http://www.dirtbikestore.co.uk/ for £215 with free delivery. mine will do 80 with tailwind to get 80 reliably you'll proberly need to change the front or rear cog
hi there i looked at my speedo and i have a 05 dtx there are three wires going to the speedo green/red ,black, and grey , one is earth one is positive for the lovely blue led display the other is thefeed for the red led for the engin overheating light so .earting the green red wire will only put the red light on .sorry guys and girls.as i have studied electronics and tried it out,all i got is the red overheat ligt which also comes on in the rain which is because water drips into the sensor switch in the motor.which can be cured by taping the top of the sensor with tape to make it water tite .i did take the snonkel out and that made it sound cooler and i think it made it go faster.cheers
hi ya the green red wire conversion does not work on my o5 dtx i have studied electronics and all the green red wire does on my speedo is feed the red LED for engin over heat.maybe your mobel has different wires there are two light inthe speedo minimum amount of wires to operate two lights independently is three.lets work hard and get the info out of yamaha.
Hi 666r, its not the actualy wires in the speedo mate. Follow the speedo wires back in to the loom where they plug in, look for the plug with one wire missing. the other side of the plug (main loom plug) has a black/green wire going directly in to a empty pin slot. Thats the one you want to cut and earth.
thanks dtrworld 2 ,followed the wires from the speedo back to the loom and at the loom it joined a section with a green black wire one of the previos owners had pulled it back ant tapped it to the fork ,no wonder i could not find it , i connected a wire and wrapped it rond a bolt and tightend it,i think a soldering job would be best, will remember to check connectivity a regular intervals.my bike used to do 85 when i got it on a down hill section of road with no wind it was doing 70 up hill today.so all is still cool thanks for that was starting to loose faith on some of the info on this site, how did you guys figue that out.cheers later
is it not the wire going into the connecting block??? thats what i done, it just made the bike rev harder, getting 80mph after a while, 6th gear takes a while to rev out
hi all just erthed the green wire and my 07 dt125x will go 65-70 in about 3.5 seconds with standerd pipe and can befor erthing the wire i could only get 60mph in about 6 seconds so there is a big change in speed very happy with it.
ps. i will get a dep pipe and silencer soon and should get 80 mph. i hope!
i read all your comments on the green wire subject and decided to do it i have a full dep system an cut the wire an earthed it today an i must say omg what a change it lifts on powerband in second now and flies thanks for tips guys here is a pic of my 2005 dtrsm box has now gone lol
