I've got some slight play in the swinging arm ??

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice,
I've got some very slight play in the swinging arm and wondered if it was normal, If I **** the bike over on the stand and pull the swinging arm apward in the direction of normal suspension travel I can feel some (ever so slight) play, should i ?? can you guys check to see if you have the same? I've had 2 different linkages and on the one I've got now I place new shims and bearings in there, the play seems to be coming from the smaller pin which connects to the frame behind the engine andy Ideas or advice??confused

Thanx

No, there shouldnt be any play at all. If you're detecting play on the actual arm it'll be the main pivot bearings where long bolt goes through the frame and engine. You could try packing grease in to the bearings with a grease gun via the grease nipples.

yeh ^ Or, make sure the bolts have not come slightly loose.

Take the seat off and do it, that way you can get a better look and normally see the problem.

My bike just failed the mot on thiscry

On my bike it is the bush inside the loop on the bottom of the shock, not a replacable part so i've just bought a second hand shock to replace it with.

I actually replaced the collars in the linkage before this, but even though it was a bit worn it wasn't the problem.

Thanks for the advise guys, I've got the number of a guy who's stripping an accident damaged 06 bike (900 miles on it) and he's just said I can have the new linkage all the shims pins etc for £20 so I've kind of snatched his hand off, I'll let you know if this sorts it, I'll also have a look at the shock and where the swinging arm is bolted to the frame and engine too,

Thanks for the help again, hopefully someone will post something I can help with soon ! biggrin

I've got it sorted!

The guy who was selling the linkage also chucked in a swinging arm off of the DTX super moto so I've ended up with a new complete back end to the bike, (not sure I like the black compared to the silver swinging arm thoconfused
However No more play  !biggrin just got to get her through the MOT now.

Thanks for all you help guys !

Is anyone interested in a used, but like spanking new, brembo twin pot front brake caliper off of an 06 reg DTX ? bought it as an upgrade but it doesn't fit my older bikecry £50 if anyone wants it?
