ok i want to know what the deal is with the cdi's! my bike is an 05 dt125x, know all the later bikes are strangled but is the cdi definately restricting the power? if so is there a replacement such as an older dt/ tzr or maybe yz cdi? ive seen people talking about deristricing th cdi unit............... how exactly do you do that?? or can i take it to someone that can derestrict it? if there was a plugin device to advance the ignition that would make a difference i think but i cant find one anywhere. someone please help
1. Undo the top 2 headlight bolts either side. 2. Take the light casing away from the mounts. 3. Find the back of the speedo. 4. There should be a bunch of wires and a connector, find this. 5. On the bike side of the connecter there should be one wire that doesn't go anywhere. Very carefully cut just this wire. 6. Strip the wire casing about 10mm. 7. Take the wire a feed it down to the fork. 8. Using a cable tie you need to mount the cable to the fork.
When the wire is earthed the limiter is disabled.
The cdi restriction acts as a rev limiter therefore if the bike is over revved for a long period the bike may well blow up.
The rev limiter can be reapplied by Unearthing the wire, to do this cut the cable tie and use electrical tape to fix the wire to the bikes plastic underneath the headlight.
if you ring webbs of lincoln they sell ignitions that let your dtrs rev to 11,000 rpm but u need to get the flywheel to it cost bout 350 qid to but worth it.
dont listen to dtx125king he is a bodger... the wire he says to cable tie to the forks should be done properly ie: instead of cutting and wrapping a cable tie round the fork you should find the empty slot on the connecting harness and insert a proper pin with wire attached to it and bolt to a decent earthing point using a ringed connector... why bodge it when it takes 2 more minutes to do it right???
your bike wont blow up unless you ride it like you stole it!!! if you know what i mean!!!
behind the speedo is a four pin connecting block. There are 4 wires going into the block and only 3 wires coming out the speedo side. Just find the Green/Black wire going into the block, and on the other side of the block in the empty slot just insert a pin from an old connector block with a small piece of wire on it (long enough to join to an earth on the fork yokes or even the headlight bracket). When the Green/Black wire is earthed this stops the YPVS from retarding over 7000 RPM. The engine should rev freely now.
god luck... and if you need more help or pictures i can do this for you at the weekend buddy... just ask...
If you dont mind taking a few pics it would be greatly appreciated...
I know you have explained in great detail, and once my bike is back with me i will more then likely see what u mean straight away, but at least if theres a pic for me to refer to then i shunt be able to go wrong :)
Yeah all Dtr's before 02 are loads better, the one's after have loads more restrictors and the main one is that the conrod is shorter so you don't get the full stroke, earlier dtr conrods will fit straight in, although you just have a little carb set up afterwards, quite an easy job if you are mechanically minded.
no thats not true they would not put a shorter conrod in all they would do to slow the engine down is to take meat of the top of the piston to lower the compresion which i dont think they do anyway...
karl Skyline is a cowboy, dont listen to him. i followed his power valve guide and it broke my valve!!! A shorter conrod works much better, you can hardly notice any differance when you look at them, there is only 3mm differance, but this make so much differance in performance, a longer stroke is a more powerfull stroke which mean more engine performance. its a restriction yamaha tried hiding.
