I have Boyeson power reeds in my 2001 Dt along with the powervalue "derestricted" and the electronic speedo restriction taken out along with the reed manifold bit re-shaped / derestricted and mine pulls the same as a 1990 DT with a full DEP system on and power value derestricted...so I'm doing pretty well seeing as I haven't spent a penny on my bike performance wise - (friend gave me the reeds for free :) )
Race reeds are more flexible than stock ones so allows the incoming fuel mixture to 'charge' into the cylinder quicker. It should in theory allow crisper throttle response but i doubt you would notice any real difference on a stock motor.Being'race' reeds they respond better to a tuned motor with expansion pipe, porting and gasflowing work etc
sorry polsta i aint been on ere in a while, ill sell you an inlet manifold thats been chopped/chamfered as reccomended on ere, and a reed block set up with the boyesens in, makeme an offer? iv put my bike back to stock exept the dep pipe now, need more reliability as its my work hack lol....
The best thing to do with reeds is, dont bother with racing ones, The yamaha TZR 150 ones fit stright in as they are both 3.7's, but the tzr ones are already capped and increase the bph by about 8%. use's more fuel but goes loads better, youll notice the differance stright away.
i fitted boyesen dual stage racing reeds, i notice the power increase it makes the bike feel alot more responsive, but they will only work (well you will only feel the difference) if you have derestricted your bike and put a performance air filter in and a performance exhaust on because the reeds work better the more you tweak your bike.
When fitting racing reeds always do a plug check to make sure you bike is running in good order, because they can make your bike run to rich, if you dont you will lose power!!
