ive tried all things, and my 1998 wont go past 65 topps, its got the power and i can get to 60 before hitting top gear, but it just wont go past 65 or rev out on that top gear

so it must be the cdi ??

i spoke to a bloke in a shop today, and he said it must be a cdi issue, and he can get me what one i need, but i have to tell him what one and he said get on the net on forums to try n find out

any ideas or help on this or what cdi i could get/need

cheers

hi,i have a 2002 model had it a year now, when i road the bike home from buying it,it felt really slow with no guts, top speed was 60mph,would not go past 8,000 revs.now i have the bike of going of clock.i dont think getting these older c.d.i will make much difference.what i have done to my bike is taking the white connecter from behind the speedo out, then i blocked the hole in that plastic bottle, and cut the snorkel off the air box,i then took the bike for a test and it got to 70mph but would not go past 9,000 revs.i then bought a dep tail pipe and there was no diffrerence in speed just a bit better sound.i then bought a front pipe of ebay i think its a big one not sure its black and has no name on it.it now goes to 80mph,but the biggest buzz it the acerlration sorry cant spell,,it fly,s to 80 and redlines i can wheelie in second but after use clucth, does not wheelie with just the throttle, but i have the servo working i suppose if the valve was pegged in place then i would feel the pull more at 8,000 revs........

yep either buy a aftermarket front pipe or take the restriction out the original one... an original front pipe with the restriction took out is the same as an aftermarket one thats all i did to mine what a difference makes the bike much faster allthough i dont have it on the road yet just offroading and ive only had to 50-55 its gets there very quickly! revs straight to 10000 i also blocked the hole in that side bottle but i havent took the reed switch out yet... mine is also a 2002 model

take the reed switch out, this is because when your speedo gets to 60mph the c.d.i unit stops it from going past 60

is there a reed switch in a 1998 dtr ? or is that just the later ones

i have a full big one system, it made good difference to acceleration and free revving now all the way, it just didnt do much to the top end ,it just gets there faster

its gotta be something cdi related !!

whats this bottle thing and snorkel people talk off ? are they in a 1998 ? any instructions how to do this ??

thanks

have a look on the main site under de restricting, then click 97-99 models, at the bottom under the power valve bit, it has the grey box wiring stuff and says to do that...i have not got the grey box by the oil tank, but reckon it could be elsewhere under the seat or something ?

ive never had the seat and fuel tank off of my bike
