Can any one suggest what is going on with my rear brake?
It kind of worked ok when I first got the bike, then all of a sudden I had excesive brake peddal travel, I tried bleeding it up but could get no better.
I took it to the local bike shop and was told there was a nack to bleeding them so I left it there and had new pads fitted as it was going to be there anyway. When I got it back the rear brake was **** hot and caught me out a couple of times. I adjusted the play so that it was comfortable and it had a good feel. I went out on the lanes this Sunday (very wet and cold) After 3/4 of an hour I had hardly any rear brake and now I have excessive peddal travel and hardly any brake. Is it the new pads wearing in or something more serious?
Is there a nack to bleeding the brake?
Any ideas would be greatfully recieved.
I am laneing again this Sunday and it would be quite nice to have a rear brake but I will still go if it is not working I still have a front brake and gears to slow me down.

there aint no special nack m8 to bleed em is a simple job its obviously sucking in air somewhere maybe from the seal on the caliper piston or seals in the master cylinder may be on its way out

id remove the rear caliper and examine it for any signs of leaking fluid round the piston and if its not that then examine all the connections

id put my money on the piston seal biggrin

Went out green laneing weekend before last with a really crap rear break, I could stand on the pedal and feel just a little resistance. I was going down a big hill on tarmac with the rear break on to stop me going faster not really to slow me down when there was a big clank and I started a skid that I didnt think was going to stop (wet tarmac down hill 30/35 mph knobblys) got control of it a had quite a good time snaking past the other riders I was with. It turned out that the disk was ever so slightly warped couldnt feel it when braking or turning wheel off ground. One brake pad had worn out and got welded to the disk, gone 1 full turn and got wedged in the backside of the caliper causing the lock up. Had to take the rear wheel out to remove the caliper and pad. Carried on for the rest of the day with front brake and gears. Down hill on chaulk was quite interesting but had a really good day.
Disc and pads now replaced and looking forward to laneing again this Sunday
