Hey all, I was just wondering if there was any bulbs out there that are brighter than the standard ones.  My lights aren't too bad, but I do struggle to see at night, especially on back roads, I've had many near accidents where what appeared to be road is actually a hedge or a ditch.  Do these halogen bulbs you see on ebay actually make a difference?

Or specific ..

Ebay No ''190279667862" ...

Depends on your model ...

Standard are a bit meek disbelief

But they are designed for 60 mph ... not the 90 most guys here pull !!

Hey Si, Cheers for replying, the standard bulbs really are a bit of a joke, although nowhere near as bad as my mates Aerox which are like candles behind glass.
I've had a look at the auction you put the number for, and the bulbs don't have the right fitting on, but these one's look right; 190279666889 it doesn't say they're for DT's, but they're 12V 55W ones and look like they'd fit (I'll get my bulb out tomorrow and check) so that all sounds right.
Reckon I should go for it?

I took it out and compared it to the photos, and it looks the same except for these 3 metal tags that are on it but I could break them off.  But...turns out, DT's use a 45/40W bulb not 55 so I don't think it'd work.  Or can you use any wattage bulb so long as it's the right voltage?
I dont understand electricity.
Yamaha should have just made them better in the first place, I think I'm going to write them a letter of complaint.
I don't get it though, that guy on ebay who's selling those halogen bulbs supposedly for DT's must know they won't fit - or maybe he's just stupid.  Mine's a '99....do the newer bikes have different bulb sockets?  What year's your bike?

Breaking Tags off ... mmm Not sure ... would rather not ... but possible ...

45 watt @ 12 Volt ... 3.75 amps ..

55 watt @ 12 Volt ... 4.6 amps ..

If voltage ok ... will be OK ..

BUT will draw a tidge more current through wiring .... [see above]
Not an expert on DT Leccy's ... But the wiring system is designed for near 4 amps, so very much doubt if 4.6 amps would do any harm ?? !!

I aint studied the wiring diagrams yet for DT's .. so i dont know if the headlight power is from battery system or straight from the alternator / generator unit ..
This may cause problems if the headlight is supplied from the Alt' as it may overload the unit ..
Does your headlight work when engine is off ???

Mines an 04 RE mod' .. which headlight comes on [no switch to turn off ! EuroCrats !!] when i start the bike, but when i switch motor off, the light stays on ... so mine is from the battery system, and as such i would be more than happy to up my lamp wattage to 55w ...

Possible problems for mine ??

Overload 'Fuse' ?? Doubtful ... very doubtful ...

Overload wiring + cause it to melt .... Very Doubtful ....

Extra heat generated ... More Light - Same Efficency Level - = More Heat .....
so the extra heat COULD melt the headlight surround, just as a light shade in your house will have a 60 w Max /// 100 w max sticker .. if you whack in a 150 w lamp {bulb} .. it will melt .. a bit ... and poss' set on fire ...

Don't write to Yam .... If you bollock the spanish ... they won't give a fook .. Siesta Amigo ..
and if you bollock the Japs ... well .... they wont understand you ! [unless your name is god ... [V. Rossi] .. in which case you will have 4 x 125 w searchbeams bolted on your bike, before you can say .... Aussie Spoilt Boy ? .. Chancer ! Will never be champ again !!

Hope this hepls ...

Ps m8 ..

Your Headlight may light with engine & go off when you turn motor off ?
But this won't prove it's fron Alternator, as their may be a relay holding it off ??

Cars Have Em .... !  bleh

I'll ask someone at my local Yam garage and see what they think, although my opinion of their mechanical knowledge is pretty low, seeing as they told me putting in semi-synthetic oil wouldn't do any harm at all....
I'm pretty sure the headlight only gets power from the battery on mine, people have said the battery tops it up a bit and makes it brighter, but after it got nicked and the battery wasn't connected for a while the lights weren't any dimmer, and didn't get any brighter hooked up to a charged battery. Also, the lights don't come on unless the engines on.
Are your lights dimmer/flickering at tickover? I didn't know any DT's lights came on when the bike was off, I bet it'd drain the battery in 5 seconds flat! It's gay these stupid new laws, making all new bikes have to have their lights on all the time, I wonder how much time and effort and money went into getting that law put in... what a waste of ****ing time.
And I'm glad Casey Stoner's turned up on the scene, now Rossi's got some real competition, he can show us all what he's capable of. Ooo...that's a thing, were the original 500cc Motogp bikes they used to ride 2 strokes? And what about the 1000's they ride now, they sound like 2 strokes, but I don't think it'd be feasible for a 1000cc 2 stroke to last a race being thrashed?
Anyway, I don't suppose it really matters if you blow the fuse, they cost bugger all, but I don't fancy my headlight casing melting all over the electrics....although it'd look cool. I don't think I'm gonna bother now though, I've got my test in about 10days, and I know a guys who's selling a 1981 DT 250, it's an absolute beauty. Needs the electrics sorted out, but he's gonna do all that. I imagine the headlight on that thing will be even ****ter (it's a 6V system, 35W bulbs) and it'll probs be even harder to find a good upgrade, but oh well.
Actually, your searchbeam idea sounds pretty good, then I could really **** over all those cars that don't dip for motorcycles.... *burns eye sockets out of motorists*

It wont m8 ... !

Old oil descriptions have changed ..

We are talking 2 stroke oil here ....... yea ?

Semi Synthetic  NOW Synthetic .... [on bottles]

Synthetic   NOW   Fully Synthetic  ... [on bottles]

Either of these fine for your bike ......

Fully Better ..... But Synth wont harm ?????

55 w lamp wont harm your system .. my opinion ... find one, and i'll get one & try it in mine first !!!

Old GP 500's ... Yes 2 stroke V4 [2 cranks, so not true V4's !] Big Bang Motors [uneven firing cycle] ...
Old  ... Moto GP = 4 stroke 990 cc max ...
New .. Now ... 800 cc 4 stroke ....

Stoner ... Never Again ... !

Hayden on the Ducati ... Good Combination .. I think he will fly !
Brave & fast ... and doesn't throw the teddy out every other week like 12 year old stoner !

69 ......................... All the way !

ps 1000cc 2 stroke ! Wow .. Jap's could build one that would last no prob's ... it would be less stressed than the old 500's ..

but will never be .... !

2 strokes Dead ...... Shame Innit ?
