Hi there, does anyone know of a simple way of upgrading front and rear brakes on a 1989 DT125R. I have put goodridge hoses on but brakes are still rubbish. I was wondering if any motocross bikes have similar fittings and if a complete brake system from a mx bike could just be bolted on?
I use bike off road on MX practice tracks and need any help I can get to keep up with my quick mates. Thanks
the dtr brake system is a bit pants but then again so are most single sided brake systems,ive heard of guys upgrading but i think its more for visual rarther then stopping power im not convinced that adding a name like brembo turns a bike into the ultimate stopping beastie
a brake is a brake and the best thing you can do is keep it well maintained if its really poo then you may have an underlying problem
you could modify the brake system but these things dont come cheap and on a field bike i doubt it would be worth the effort matey :)
In order to do that you'd need DTX brake caliper , DTX forks , DTX wheels , DTX brake disc , DTX lever . Lots of money and not worth it imo unless you were going SM anyway
Thanks for the help. I know its only a field bike, but I am too old and beat up now to go back to the RM 250 that nearly killed me. So I am taking the soft option and trying to sort out the DT. If I can't get mx brakes that will fit I will just have to keep on starting to slow down as soon as I get onto the straights.
i see i didint think it was that muich of a big deal to change over! Ive never ridden a dt on a dtx! is therte a big difference in stopping power between the two? My dtxs breaks do the job but i wouldnt say they were particularly good...
