Rains messing up my electrics help!!!!!!!

Well its rained a bit in the last 2 days as most of you will knowdisbelief and cos i've been at work my bikes been out in it. Yesterday morning the indicator played up again so i wiggled it a bit and it started working agen. But then when i left work and indicated left it was flashing realy fast front and rearconfuse and as the revs dropped it slowed down.  But it doesn't do this when indicating rightconfuse. And then this morning on the way to work the bike started spluttering if the revs were held above 6k, and then tonight the lights were going dim then going back to normal in high beam and low beam. I think these problems are all tided in with each other, and im sure it something to do with the bike getting wet. Anybody know what it might be?????

Did you disconnect the indy's , rear light , headlight etc and clean them off mate ?

A faulty indy can throw off all the electrics in a car , so may apply to this too

yeh, check for the black wire on your loom, normally attached to the frame, if its only happening when in the rain and is affecting all of the above, check the connecting from your battery to main feed on loom behind right panel as if its oily or wet everything will react from the main feed smile.gif

if your getn led ones, they may require a different relay to make them pulse at the correct rate so best wait to see what indys you are getn 1st mate

Just took the battery cover off too find that both the negative and positive leads had connectors on the a few inches away from the batteryconfuse god knows why they're there but i unplugged them and pushed them back in tight and gave them a squirt of wd to keep the water out and my lights worked finebiggrin. And i took the headlight cowl off too find some really dodgy wiring for the indicators, so i tided them up a bit and the indicators appear to work alrighthmm.

dts are prone for spluttering in the wet, this is because the water runs down off tank etc and onto ht lead then down to the spark area, sealing off with insulating tape on coil and cap helps smile.gif

I was getting really bad spluttering and back fireing on my old DT, so I posted on here and some of the old memebers baz and gav I think suggested buying a new HT lead, after replacing the HT lead the bike worked fine in the wet and heavy rain.

I thought that may solve the spluttering, did you change the caps or just the lead? And the bulb turned out to have a damaged element.

Most of my wires are sealed and covered with black electrial tape, can be a pain in the arse to get in the areas but well worth it as then of course the rain wont get in them smile.gif

if it was only happening in the rain it wont be a faulty ht, it is rain getting into the open gaps and shorting the ht out, otherwise if it was doing it when not raining then yes i would check the ht but that isnt the problem here smile.gif
