Well its rained a bit in the last 2 days as most of you will know and cos i've been at work my bikes been out in it. Yesterday morning the indicator played up again so i wiggled it a bit and it started working agen. But then when i left work and indicated left it was flashing realy fast front and rear and as the revs dropped it slowed down. But it doesn't do this when indicating right. And then this morning on the way to work the bike started spluttering if the revs were held above 6k, and then tonight the lights were going dim then going back to normal in high beam and low beam. I think these problems are all tided in with each other, and im sure it something to do with the bike getting wet. Anybody know what it might be?????
No not had time, go work in the dark and leave in the dark it give me no time to do anything :( the bike hasn't had a wash since i got it. and how should i go about cleaning them?
yeh, check for the black wire on your loom, normally attached to the frame, if its only happening when in the rain and is affecting all of the above, check the connecting from your battery to main feed on loom behind right panel as if its oily or wet everything will react from the main feed
I will have a look tomorrow, fed up with these indicators playin up so im gettin some led ones, anyone know where i can get the new relay as im told they will flash too fast.
Just took the battery cover off too find that both the negative and positive leads had connectors on the a few inches away from the battery god knows why they're there but i unplugged them and pushed them back in tight and gave them a squirt of wd to keep the water out and my lights worked fine. And i took the headlight cowl off too find some really dodgy wiring for the indicators, so i tided them up a bit and the indicators appear to work alright.
nice1 knew it would be that area, anyhow, how much feckn cash do you want to spend on indys?thats silly money and personnaly they look awfull lol, try the link bellow they less than £10 for 2
Gettin them off ebay :D im a cheap skate :P i'll see what they look like and if i dont like them get the ones you put up :) and it still splutters could it be a damp ht lead???
dts are prone for spluttering in the wet, this is because the water runs down off tank etc and onto ht lead then down to the spark area, sealing off with insulating tape on coil and cap helps
I was getting really bad spluttering and back fireing on my old DT, so I posted on here and some of the old memebers baz and gav I think suggested buying a new HT lead, after replacing the HT lead the bike worked fine in the wet and heavy rain.
Most of my wires are sealed and covered with black electrial tape, can be a pain in the arse to get in the areas but well worth it as then of course the rain wont get in them
if it was only happening in the rain it wont be a faulty ht, it is rain getting into the open gaps and shorting the ht out, otherwise if it was doing it when not raining then yes i would check the ht but that isnt the problem here
