Steering head bearings?

You need to *get the front wheel off the floor then pull/push on the forks to see where the movement is.

*this can be done by getting a mate to pull the bike over on it's side stand while you check it.

I put it on a bike jack at work today and theres no play so i dont think its the steering head bearings.

Are the little clips still in place on your brake pads?(The bit's which clip to the caliper and hold the pads) That could cause knocking which you could check with the wheel off the floor again.

Other than that it could be the bushes in the forks?

If its a DT-X it could be the floating disc bobbins but I doubt it, most likely cause is the headset or the fork bushes

You might be able to feel it by taking the wheel off and pushing/puling on the fork leg.You should be able to feel/hear it if that's where the problem lies.

I'm just guessing with that one tbh as i've never had  a problem with the fork bushes.

prob pads moving... steering bearings are easy to check... put your hand around the top cup and when your rock the bike youd feel movement..

is mostly the head stock bearings with that noise mine does it need to tighten em up, nock the castlated ring round a few time and then try it

Cheers Norfe, I will give it a go but it defo seems to be coming from further down and you can only hear it when the forks reach the point where they are almost fully compressed with the front break held hard on..
