Do i need to do top end rebuild?

Hi guys. Need some help from you. Something rong is happening with my tdr and i have no idea what it could be. I have cleaned air filter, carb and adjusted everything as it says in manual. But my tdr has no power at all at low rpm. I have checked YPVS and it was running fine, so that not ypvs fault. For example event if i try to wheelie by slipping clutch front end of the bike just jumps a little bit of the ground and engine stifles. no Also it has top speed of only 120km/h ( and thats already in redline). There also is rattling noise when i rev it up. All these symptoms make me think that i need top end rebuild. And if there would be no compression shouldnt my bike star hardly? But it starts in first kick cold. blankstare I feel frutrated and i dot know what to do next... Help me please. hmm

im no expert but a lack of compression means it starts very easily, so thats something else to add to your list :p

how many miles/kilometers has it done since the last rebuild?

By the way my tdr engine is not original. It seems to be from tzr. And the bike was made in 1995. So i dont think that i can rely on odometer readings. No one knows really how many miles engine has done. no
Also i would like to thank you guys for replying me so fast aww Firstly i thought that no one will care about my problem and no one will answer but this forum seems to be very helpful wink

P.S. Sorry for my imperfectly english. I hope its not hard for you to understand me smile

need to do a compression test.. as for rattling it could be piston slapping or small end bearing (piston bearing)

lack of compression would make the bike slow. even more noticeable going up a hill.. take the barrel off and measure everything to see if its in spec or test compression

another way to know compression is crap is when you try to kick it feels like theres not much buildup and the lever just glides through.. with good compression it feels nice forceful. if you get me..

When i kick i feel almost no force at all... As you said lever just glides through. And yes, the bike is really slow. hmm I think i have made my mind. I am going to buy new piston kit and change it. There is nothing else left to do. Thanks for advices.

dont forget to check if the barrell needs rebored 1st as you may waste money if you need to buy a bigger piston and ring set to suit smile.gif

just meens its worn a bit and the piston is slapping of the barrell, i say its general wear, your local garage will be hinting for more pennies for the winter(the oh i think you need to rebuild your bike it sounds noisy, hints), if you got compression, ride it like its stolen until it pops, then phone your insuarnce to pick it up bring it home then do a rebuild and repeat smile.gif

nahhhh .. i go to two garages, one is owned by a guy who has had many dts and built a few hes a descent bloke and only suggests things that might be wrong and tells me how to check and if its okay to do myself, the other is the only yammy dealer and they are always like ohhh why dont you let me have a look at that, and im like nah. lol

okay then thats okay, heard the same from both garages so its all good. every bike makes some noise lol

haha crack a piston, again again and again lol

Hey guys, i have bought new piston kit recently. Rattling sound has gone, and i can realy feel compression when i start the bike with kick starter now smile The engine still has to break in so i still cant fully test the bike biggrin But i am sure that everything will be ok. Thanks for advices one more time w00t.gif
