So I finally got round to sorting the dep pipe out, Looks very tidy at the mo, managed to get as much rust off as possible, cos of the bad weather of course, and gave it a good spray, Pics (before and after) below........I must admit, I am not convinced with it, I like it but you know when you get a feeling something isnt right, well thats what I got smile.gif

Cheers Craig mate, its not spotless but not far off, has some odd stuff I still got to do on it, what i am gonna do is leave it like it is until the supermoto wheels go on so that will be after xmas then take a pic of the whole bike and see what you all think, its actually quite easy to get a smooth finish, and I am not expert at spraying stuff, the thing about the spray I used it didnt seem to run, which was great and I did spray about 10 inches away from the pipe, unlike the dtx forks, I sprayed them aswell yesterday and got some run in them oh dearrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr smile.gif

If you want a semi gloss finish i highly recommend Plastikote barbecue paint available from Wilkinsons and cheap too

Also good for cylinder barrels and heads.

I have a question biggrinbiggrin

Really impressed with the way these pipes look and would like to do the same with my standard one. I'm going to see if i can pick up some Plastikote bbq paint and apply that, what prep work would i need to do to the pipe before i start...i'm worried i could fcuk it up if that's possible if i forget to do something beforehand.

Cheers mates

I would imagine alot of sanding by hand, with very fine sand paper, i'm cleaning mine up at the moment, its a right pain in the ass, not a five minuite job thats for sure. Or maybe you can spray right over it but i dought it even with all the grease dirt and **** cleaned off. The good news though is that the BBQ paint only costs about a fiver from wilkenson's, i got some on the weekend :)

haha Seiki fairymuff.

Thanks for the tips guys worship.gif, is de-greasing just wiping all the crap off. I have spotted some areas on mine where it's flaking with rust, will sand paper not work here? Which is better paint or spray, i'm leaning towards a tin of paint. Would be cool if i could get the same finish as the ones above.

I'm almost finished sanding mine, will proberly spray it tomorrow so will post pics up then, if you can wait you will see the results(hopefully good).....

check out the pics tomorrow in my thread

Hey Seiki ! you calling me fairymuff ? Must be because of my 00 status, natural charm and dashing good looks !  biggrin

@Spartan, if you see my pipe its proper rusty so needed to get that off before spraying, i would say get the rust off first how you do it though is another thing, maybe try wd40 a soft cloth and plenty of elbow grease, personally if you do sand it and don't do it right it will leave scratches all over which may look pump even after spraying, i got the BBQ paint(in hind site i would have gone for pj1 or something else) i've never used it or done any thing like this before, but just want my exhaust to last untill next year as i haven't the cash to replace... cry

Cool frogboy look forward to seeing the finished product. Thanks for the link to your thread too. Ok so i didn't get round to doing mine today, I could not resist the sunny day and spent most of my time out riding instead. But i'm going to pick up some of this and paint it on after i have removed the rust with WD40 and a wire brush. That's my plan for tomorrow morning now lol, will painting it on be alright you think? Cheers biggrin

Yo dudes, do you think it's cheating by painting the exhaust without taking it off...i can't get mine off. This is gonna sound real stupid and you can go ahead and call me stupid but i cannot seem to physically get to one of the bolts holding the front pipe on underneath.

It's frustrating man lol, i can get the spanner on one and loosen it no problems but with the other i can't find an angle which allows me to get the spanner on the nut and which gives me enough room to turn it confuse

you mean the one on the left hand side near the bend, you nead a ratchet with an extention bar on it, you can get a litlle ratchet set from halfords for about 24 quid, thats what i used to get mine off smile.gif

yeah thats what i ended up doing. had to dig my dads set out in the garage.

i managed to get a spanner through the side in the frame first time i had the exhaust off. awkward barstool. Alot easier with a socket set.

its a awkward fecker to get back on to.

I found a set in my garage after all, the only thing is the screw driver bit was weak and broke under the strain of me trying to twist off yet another rusted bolt. It was one of the ones that had a mechanism inside the handle allowing it to twist the opposite way, makes clicking noises. It's as bad as my fekkin' breadstick allen keys no

Will report back tomorrow biggrin

The tool that makes clicky noises is a ratchet ;) and it must have been cheepo lol it takes some heavy handed work to break decent sockets and ratchets. only time i've broke them is when they're mickey mouse stuff.

Craig i'll have you know halfords expert tools are good tools for the money we use em on the tractors and i've sheared bolts before using them :D so they can take a bit of misuse. And lifetime warranty on them ;)

Cheers Woll i wondered what it was called and yeah it must have been or made from some sort of pixie dust!

Picked up a new set, i think the bolt is rusted in there for good it will not budge and i've ended up rounding it after the first try so no socket will properly grip it cry

With the others i was able to easily drill them out but i am not so sure with this one.

if a socket wont easily fit, try lightly tapping it on there with a hammer
