My bike MOT is due and i have 5 loose front spokes which i inteded to tighten when i replaced the front trye but now ive realised they are seized solid with rust. Can i just cut out and replace the 5 loose ones or am i going to have to buy a full set? Can anybody tell the length i need to order and if anyone knows where i could get them from.
Cheers for that, Ive been told yammy only sell in full sets for £35=VAT. Do central wheels know what spoke is needed for the bikes or do i order by size?
and as gaz will agree with me, its very difficult to get single spokes out due to the way they are laced!
best option is facing lose spoke down to the floor. oiling it up with some penetrating oil and leaving it a bit then try losen then tighten the spoke (with a spoke key/spanner.. DONT try anything else). hopefully it'll tighten up ok and not be seized! tighten it till it pings like the rest. tap them with a spanner and you'll know what sounds right..
wheels are a bit of an art.. you cant just tighten one spoke and not the neighbouring spokes so dont overtighten the lose spokes..
simple option would be to cough up £30 for a good wheel (sometimes even with a good tyre!) and learn to true your old wheel.. after a wheel its easy...

Thanks for your help element. Ive tried to loosen things up soaked with WD40 but after seeing the rim side of the nipple it is caked in flakey rust,i not got a cat in hells chance. So you say if i replace the loose spokes the tight ones will be come loose? I was thinking of cutting the loose ones 1 at a time with bolt croppers and replacing each one as i cut them.Is there going to be a problem getting them through the hub and into the rim etc.
gaz wanted some spokes of an old wheel of mine that had a nice buckle in it.. the prob I had was getting the spokes out of the hub.. ended up having to remove all the spokes.. Ive had seized spokes loosen up on me just sometimes they like wield together.. If the spokes are just twisting then ur a bit screwed..
