Best day of the year so far, Went out on the new toy.

Well i have holidays i need to use up so decided to go for a potter round on the new toy, Lots of pics of my bike coz i love it an a bit of scenery too  :D

Standege road between Diggle and Marsden near the summit, still a surprising amount of the white stuff left here.

Road to Marsden

Holmfirth, last of the summer wine country

Self indugence

Two pics near Stocksbridge

And on to Castleton, one of the tourist attractions of the peak district. first pics 'Where did the road go' ? Mam Tor road

From WikipediaMam Tor is a 517 m (1,696 ft) hill near Castleton in the High Peak of Derbyshire, England. Its name literally translates[vague] as Heights of the Mother[citation needed] and it is also known as the Shivering Mountain on account of the instability of its lower shale layers.[1] Indeed, in 1979 the continual battle to maintain the A625 road (Sheffield to Chapel en le Frith) on the crumbling southern side of the hill was lost when the road officially closed as a through-route.

At the base of the Tor and nearby are four show caves: Blue John Cavern, Speedwell Cavern, Peak Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern where lead, Blue John, fluor spar and other minerals were once mined.

Last pic, still in castleton...Wynatts pass, It's a steep bugger.

125 km's...a nice afternoon out, hands freezing, big smile and no flies on the teeth

Hope your day was good too. smile

Thats good advice for anyone woll wink

The funny thing is though the bike is actually facing up the hill, it gets steep around the bend but is a fair incline even here. Must be a trick of the camera m8, it does look downhill

Glad you like the pics, I was back there this tuesday with the grandkids, there are four showcaves in the immediate vicinity of Castleton so we went down one.
I parked up at the top of the collapsed Mam Tor road, (The pic with my bike was at the bottom). Took some pics with my mobile so quality not as good but it shows just how thic the tarmac of this road was...due to constant land slips and re-laying, no wonder they gave up all those years ago.

Nearly 900 miles now and absolutely loving it, best buy i made for a long time. West Yorks is not far away from me, in fact you will see that my ride took in some

Holmfirth, Marsden and stocksbridge smile

I have done some work on the bike and its a lott more willing now, today I fitted a Goodridge brake line...never stop tinkering it's all part of the fun. biggrin

That mamtor road is definately worth a 'Fag break' next time youre round there, go down wynatts and turn left for the bottom bit, the bit where i photo'd my bike.

Or...dont go down wynatts at the top, instead follow the blue john mine sign, thats the top part, its more or less parallel to wynatts (sort of)
