Forking hell... having trouble disassembling them!

54 plate DT125RE:

Can anyone help me please? I am trying to undo the damper bolts on the bottom of the forks but when I try to undo them they are just spinning - the whole damper rod assy is probably spinning inside the fork itself.

I've still got the fork top bolts done up to exert as much pressure on the damper assy as possible but no joy...

Does anyone have any sure-fire tips to help me out here?

As a PS, bit worried about what I'll find when I do - I drained the oil and got less than 450ml from both combined, the manual says 495ml each!

Well, got one out but the other has me beat. The Allen head rounded and made a right mess of itself, so i thought - that rounded easy, I'll just drill it off and get a new bolt. No chance - they must be made of kryptonite or something! Hard as something really bloody hard! So after air rachets, drillbits burning like they're made of wood, shouting and swearing at it, now they go in the bin and I go off to the dreaded eBay to (hopefully) find a good straight pair for peanuts...

I hate getting beat by a bloody bolt, but after three days of trying, I have to admit defeat.

Yes I do - well technically I work for Connexions but I'm based in a school most days.

Bolts will probably be made of hardened steel = a right bit#h to drill

LMAO!

This is school in the year 2010 not 1945! No one knows how to do proper things any more unless its making something out of MDF or Lego lol

I will get me some scrap metal and teach myself or enrol at the college where my GF works and do a night school course.

Embarassing really as my old man was a sheet metal worker his entire working life before he retired but never wanted to do 'work stuff' at home = bummer!

Main thing I need is a drop down mask as I currently have a hand held one which is a pain to use and weld.

lmao when i were at school one of the tech teachers could weld lol, but your right if it aint mdf or lego dont ask them rofl if your going to get a flip up mask then buy an auto adjusting one, no need for different strength filters ;) and buy a decent one, the eyes are an important thing :)
