There's a lot of corrosion on the top of my current forks and I've seen a pair from a 2003 model that are in good condition so I was wondering if I could do a straight swap?

I think I'm going to go for it and report back with the results!

I can always sell them on if it doesn't work out...

90's to 08 all the same. 88-89 had a very slightly different legs but they still fit. dtx obviously different. alot shorter and stiffer.

btw my 04 legs lost loads of chrome up by the clamps.. litterally peeled off. that was after 3-4 years! my 89 had original forks and even they were not as bad! I think the older forks had better chroming.. I think yam just started getting tight or something.. they removed the kickstart from a trail bike leaving only a leccy start (which is underneath the engine fully exposed and is why I have a bashguard), Changed the tank panels, removed the rev counter (wtf nice one), temp gauge for a stupid LED (which you never know if its gonna work, a gauge you know is fcked cos you can see it) amongst other things. wouldnt surprise me if they started skimping on the forks too.. Even the rims used to be tagasko and now they are cheap crap...

I finally got around to swapping the forks and I'm happy to report that the previous model 03 'R' forks went straight into my 04 'RE' no problem.

I now have chrome again!

Here's what the old ones look like, that's what you call skimping on the chrome...
