Im after a new chain for my bike as my current one is well manky and i seem to get a click when im riding which i think is coming from the chain.
Ive found this one online what do you lot think? Ive searched on here and im pretty sure its got enough links and its 428 pitch which is correct. I know DID make good quality chains but what does the NZ bit mean?!
dont go for an 'NZ', a 'V' (O-ring) would be a better choice, and 'VM' (X-ring) is the best.
i bought a 'V' the other week (DID 428V 134 links) if your on standard sprockets you will need a 134 link chain, ive got a 1 tooth bigger front sprocket and my 134 link still fits fine.
The chain i got atm is a DID o ring chain and the reason i want to change it is because its mega filthy and it seems stiff in places.
Im thinking about taking it off and giving it a good clean/scrub and trying it again before buying a new one.
What should i use to clean an o ring chain?
On my old pit bike i used to take the chain off, scrub it with an old nail brush and normal soap then dry it and soak it in old engine oil overnight but that wasnt an o ring chain.
When my old chain did that, i just absolutely soaked it in chain lude, then wiped the crap off, did that and then did it again, then lubed it normally.. you chain shouldnt go like that unless your not lubing it enough.. every 300 miles put some on.. (cuz thats how i ****ed mine up)
Its been the same since i had the bike really. Ive got some castrol chain lube which ive been using regularly to try and sort it but it hasnt freed the stiff parts. Theres only a couple of places where its gone stiff, i think it needs to be taken off and given a propa good scrub. Then i can feel the stiff parts and give them a good move about and concentrate the lube on that area.
Gonna get me a new split link and when that comes im gonna whip the chain off and see what i can do!
Fray although they say that you shouldn't spray a bit of wd40 on the tight links it will ease them off ;) i did mine when my bike was off the road for a few weeks, the chain went tight in a few places. I put the rear wheel back on chain on then sprayed a load of wd-40 on while spinning the wheel after a few spins it was slack as a hookers whatsit so i covered it in chain lube job done (Y). And i used to use castrol chain lube but it comes off quite easy, so i use this http://www.chester-harley-davidson.co.uk/estore/genuine/shop-by-motorcycle/product/845524441847731.php or this - http://www.bitzforbikes.co.uk/Shell_Advance_Chain_Lube_300ml-ref-15392-12-6.html I prefer the shell stuff as it's like spray wax and it doesn't come off, so if you use it try not to get it on the swingarm or the wheels as its hell trying to get it off. Oh and a bike mechanic once told me only to lube the chain when it was hot as it helps the lube work its way in (Y)
Well i propa soaked my chain in GT 85 today while it was on the bike. I then scrubbed it with a old nail brush then soaked it it GT 85 again. Went for a 10 mile ride then when i got back i soaked it in GT 85 again! Then i hosed it off with water and rubbed it all over with a rag to get the ****e off and till it was dry. I used near enough a whole big tin of GT 85!!!! LOL
Then i lubed it with my castrol racing chain lube. Its come up really well, it was absolutley caked in black sticky tar like crap but its all off now!! Wish i took before and after pics!! Gonna do it again in a week then lube it often with the castrol stuff.
@ Woll cheerz for the advise buddy. This castrol stuff i got it quite good although ive got nothing to compare it to. It sprays on then it goes sticky. You have to leave it for 20 mins after applied. You can see it bubbling and working its way into the chain!
