I have just stripped and restored my bike after i got it back after a year of it being stolen (He only got charged £85 :O)
I have put the whole bike back together while i was in the process of doing this I got all of the electrics working (that i knew too) then when i went to turn the bike on ..... Nothing happened (although when i turned it on when the bike was being put together i heard the power valve spin up)
The wiring is a serious mess at the front end if i am honest although it all does seem to be working up there as all of the lights will come on and indicators will kind of flash if the engine is started (seem to be having trouble)
When the bike is in neutral the neutral relay(i think its called) by the back coolant bottle buzzes like crazy but doesnt make a sound when the bike is in gear
I have a couple of questions....
There is a black wire which is under the tank with a circle clip on the end(I dont know how original this clip is) I have currently got it pegged on one of the coil bolts and i am not sure if this is correct (is this earth?? does it need to go to bear metal ??) if so where would people suggest ?? would this cause the bike not to be turning on ??
The neutral relay is that knackered ?? If so what is the price range for them (ish)
also there is a white clip up by the headlight with 4 wires coming from it, These wires have been chopped from the clip (so there's 2 wires there doing nothing) do you know where these came from ??
Just so people know the bike is a Yamaha DT 125 1999
The battery is brand new and fully charged (the old one was knackered after being left on for over a year) and the fuse is ok (all been tested with the multi meter)
I would massively appreciate any help
Much Appreciated R.hadley
P.S I am simply amazed when looking through some of the pictures on hear at what people have done to these DT's They look AMAZING!!
For anyone reading i solved my problem by rewiring the complete front end of the loom (Although it was kind of wierd that a light brown wire actually had to go to the light brown wire and visversa :S
I found out that my neutral relay had a loose connection and was very rusty inside
I have a weird problem now though
When the bike is in neutral the neutral light and the oil light come on (As far as i know this is correct isnt it ??) But when i put the bike into gear the oil light goes off but the neutral light stays on ?? does anyone know which colored wires go to the neutral light so i can check them ?? or can any one else thing of a possible cause ??
I know it may seem that this is my first post on this site but i had another account in which i lost the password for (hadley8899)
Cheers if anyone can answer my question
I havent made a new post becuase i though it would be pointless and i hope to get at least a reply for some help and one DT user to the next
To the neutral lamp is Brown (feed) and Blue (to switch). I suspect you may have some 'tracking issues' in your relay as you already commented on this. as the relay has a black ground wire then your indicator lamp can track to ground here. test it with a multimeter or try a substitute one. come to think of it you may be able to unplug from the relay and see if the problem disappears, that would prove it.

the black wire (main loom earth)with hoop fits to the bolt that attaches the coil to the frame, there is 2 bolts, mount the cable to the one oposite where the orange cable fits on coil, this will probably be why your neutral light is staying on too, the neutral light comes from the generator and is normally a green wire and goes to a plastic screw fitted to the case next to sprocket, also the oil light and neutrl light stays on in neutral
Yeah ive got it attached to the coil now cheers for that (neutral light still one though) the bike knows that it has gone into gear because the oil light will go off when it is put into gear ...... i suspect that the brown wire in my neutral switch is the dodgy one because someone has taken the clip out of the connection block and rammed the wires down the hole (Bodgers lol) but to be honest it does seem to be making an ok connection
Is there any way i can connect to the neutral switch without using a clip (Any methods??)
Cheers for any help bike is going great (although the engine sounds a bit slappy. Oh dearrr) i wonder that these robbing F**k*rs did to it ..... i suspect that they have just burnt it out becuase it has got around 50 miles more on the clock (which isnt much reli considering theyve had it for a year)
How much (or around abouts) is a rebore and piston ?
