Water in engine

Its my first time rebuilding the top end after the 2 stoke pump failed and i had to get it rebored and a new piston etc.....
I probably should have got it all done at a garage but i thought it was going to be easy!

I have just put the engine back together and filled with oil and coolant but as i added the coolant i saw it start leaking out the cylinder gasket (the lower one not the head gasket), fearing I had managed to tear the gasket when i fitted it i removed the bolts and slid the cylinder up a little and sure enough my gasket was torn, Then i noticed the bottom end was full of the coolant I had just added, the con rod and everything lower (so all the crank) will and is soaked.(like full soaked!)
I removed the water pump cover and drained it out asap.

I would have thought that it shouldn't have any water in there but as I said im a complete newbie when it comes to bikes.
Im praying you guys are going to tell me this is okay and normal but somehow i don't think thats going to be the case!

I noticed the water pump looks as if it  pumps straight into the bottom end?

Anyway can anyone help me in answering if there should be coolant in there?
Or maybe its just because the gasket failed?
But if thats not the case anyone know why this might of happened?

thanks in advance
Mike

No coolant isnt supposed to go into the bottom end mate it must have got thru the split in the base gasket

Im doing this on my drive so have no compressor or air tools to blow it out
