right lads just wondering how many numbers/letters should my dtr chassie number have

What year is it? after a certain year I think chassis numbers had to be 17 digit, but the early ones had quite short maybe around 8 digit frame numbers

got told it was a 2000 but has 9 frame numbers but it hasent been tampered wif

 i took my mates dt for mot noticed there was only 9 numbers on that 2 with a star type symbul either end ... his is a 98model so 9numbers is fine...
