i was just wondering if a pre 04 model cdi would fit a 04 onwords and would i get a power increase as at the minute theres no powerband and it feels electronic restricted.

Totally different if you are talking about a DTR swapping with a DTX or RE

Like ben says, totally different.

Have you done anything to it?

No powerband suggests the powervalve is doing its job right, its designed to smooth out the entire rev range spreading the power all the way up to peak power at 8500rpm.

That said, if you haven't done the "earth the green wire" trick it won't be opening at 7,000ish and robbing you of top-end power, so its well worth checking that.

Also, what expansion chamber have you got? A standard Yamaha part that is unmolested will also deny you of power. Not so easy to remedy, either cut it and gut it, or fit an unrestricted aftermarket one instead.
