Handle bar stem clonking/knocking??

hi there. Just the other week my handlebar stem started making the knocking clonking noice. I only noitced it when I pushed my bike up the curb. Now when I ride it and there are like pot holes/cracks/speed humps I can hear it knocking the stearing seems to be fine. An when I hold the frount brake an move the bike in a back and forth there's no knocking? Couldn't be the bearings could it? as the stearing seems fine and dont feel stiff. I thought id make a new post as someone might be able to help me out here. I have a DTR125 2001mod

Tighten up your head bearings mate i had exactly the same. Loosen the top nut and then using a flat blade screwdriver and small hammer to tap the bearing nut tight.

If tht dnt sort it u might have worn barings , if u can have the front wheel off the ground and turn the bars slowly side to side if u feel a notchy-ness (won't be far from centre position) then ur barings are worn , aslo while u got the front off the ground check for play in all directions , up down side-side ect ect jus so u know exactly wat it is , u dnt need the front end to rip off on a speed bump or summink lol

Let us know wat u find m8

axle clamp and axle?? not sure what that is?? But will have a look at the stearing and see if I can find anything. Ever Since I've joined this It's inspired me to wanna do things with my bike. I'm loving the site, so many helpful people on here. It's grate. Thanks for all your useful comments. better then any garage. Also This might be a bit off topic but How would I tell if the barrel is worn just by looking at it? I'm sure there will be some ware marks on it but how bad would it need to be before I think about sending it off. It will be my first rebuild done by myself so I'm totally new to this.

Got it sorted now.. After taking off the mudgard there wasnt anything underthere that I could tap round. I then got my big spanner out and thought maybe it was the big nut by the handlebars.. and as I went to turn it, it was lose a little. So tightend it up and took her out for a quick spin and there was no more clonking/knocking. Thanks again to everyone who replied to my post.. Thanks Guy's

the axle is wat ur wheels spins on and the axle clamp is the bit on one of the fork legs with 4, 10mm nuts tht plate underneath it, and tbh i would check the front end proply instead of jus tightning the top nut, did u raise the front end off the ground?? and did u find any play in the front end???
