hi toy

has your bike got a thermostat in it????

if it doesnt then it could be overcooling

and this could be why the gauge isnt moving much

i had this when my thermo was broken and it was removed for replacment (still ran the bike ) and it would not get upto temp

It should move mate when you turn the ignition on? then it makes me wonder why would it move anymore up if everythings how it should be, drain the water out LOL then ride it see the gauge going up then

i had this problem a few weeks ago. turned out to be a dodgy temp senson on top of the head.

i had the exact same symptom as you. /temp gauge only moved when ignition on not at all when warming up.

now my gauge works great and increases as it warms. the needle sits just below the halfway mark now when the bikes upto running temp.

i had to replace the sensor on top of the head with a new one. luckily i had a spare one.

take the sensor out and give it a good clean. then dip the end in boiling hot water from kettle with the sensor wire attached and your ignition on... if gauge still not moving your sensor is buggered.

you cant check it like thatno

the earth for that circuit is the engine ..so if you remove it from the bike it wont work anyway

take a multimeter set it to ohms ...clip it on either end of the temp sensor and drop it in some boiling hot water  ..the ohms should read between 25 and 30 ohms

if it does all good

hope this helps
