yamaha do not make 1988 wiring looms anymore , rather than get a new engine including wiring harness and cdi unit could i put lets say a year 2000 stator generator coil into the 1988 engine will this work ? it means only getting a 2000 wiring harness and 2000 cdi unit and not having to buy another engine ....
does anyone know if stator generator coils are interchangable ??
I recommend having a chat with your nearest yamaha dealer, I would imagine that is your best chance of finding out, they can have a look at some of the old microfiches and see if there are similarities between the parts. HTH

i think haynes manual has all the different wiring diagrams in the back so you could compare the looms, do you not have the old 88' loom that you could repair? about the most boring task you can do on a bike for sure but a cheap option

A quick and easy check would be to have a look at A J Suttons website as they show the exploded parts list views but not the part numbers. However, this isnt a problem as there were to my knowledge 2 different types of generator assemblies. One had the flywheel with the large steel weight riveted to it, the other just had a plain looking flywheel. You should be able to see this difference from the exploded view. The coils are not interchangeable between the 2 types as the inside diameter of the 2 flywheels are different. Hope this helps
