alright lads not been on here for some time but iv got a problem with my dtx first thing is i ran out of petrol pushed my bike to petrol station filled up tried to start my bike but it dident start so i kept trying my electric start finely it started got home left my bike about an hour went to go back out on my bike and the electric start has stopped working all i can hear is a clicking sound from by the battery? any1 know what this could be im thinking it could be a relay iv ask my local yammy dealer he hasent got a clue thanks for your help
All the other electrics work but when you click the starter button it just clicks? Try charging the battery (not enough oooomfff to spin it over) Or if when you tried to start your bike up you held the electric start button on for longer then a few seconds you may have over heated your starter motor and knackered it up
Check voltage of the battery with the ignition off Less than 12.5V?? Charge it up (I personally recommend a trickle charger, a car charger can/will significantly lower the life expectancy of your battery)
Or just do a kickstart conversion and save yourself the hassle
Starter motor isn't getting enough juice to turn it over but yet cleaning the carb will make it run? That doesn't make sense to me.. The likely reason the bike didn't want to start at the garage was because the carb's float bowl was drained dry and now the bike is 'clicking' because you drained the battery trying to start it up with no fuel at the garage
Charge the battery up (trickle charger as suggested) and if you run into any problems later on with running/flat spots/bogging down/backfiring or anything else then maybe clean the carb but until then it's an unnecessary task..
II ran out of petrol on my old bike and couldn't get it started...cleaned carb and it started straight away....must have dragged all crap throught from tank
But did it click when trying to start it up? That does make sense if it just keeps cranking and nothing happens.. But this isn't even cranking Also the DTR has some filters on the fuel tap straws and in my experience they work very well at preventing sh*t getting dragged in to the carb
Also going from ON to RESERVE for me took the absolute p*ss, many a times I've been sat at the side of the road for 5-10 minutes waiting for the carb to fill up because if I didn't I'd just be cranking the bike over and over doing nothing
my battery flat most the time as i hardly get to go on it at the minute and it does the clicking noise, if its the battery jus bump it and go for a good ride to let the battery to charge

sounds like the problem to me thanks gincat i will check the battery
I got a similar problem with my dt125re 05 model.. Basically it works when it wants to but theres a high pitched zzz sound, with mine, i found out its my starter motor not spinning out and i normally bump start it easy ... well if its warm if not takes me about 3 attempts... i've been told to take my starter motor out and give it a good clean and that should do the trick, dont know if yours is the same problem, but i'm putting a kickstart on this week make my life easier haha
urm basically you need the kickstart and the kickstart shaft will all the bits and bobs that go on it, and the idler gear :) if you need a full list you need: kickstart lever nut oil seal spring guide return spring washer kcikstart pinion friction clip kickstart shaft circlip (2) thrust washer (2) idler gear
Haynes manual has its uses, i picked all mine up from my local garage for about £45 so not too bad :)
