A mate of mine has one of the athena 170 kits on his mtx 125 and it goes like stink. I am not sure what carb or jetting/ gearing he is running but cruises at around 80 mph.
According to Farnham the piston and cylinder head isn't that good and nothing he would work with re tuning [etc]. He went into detail about why exactly but I wasn't listening by that point. Heard good reviews and a few bad. End of the day everyone knows it's vastly overpriced but if you get a deal or/and can afford it ...
I dont think its that overpriced, a completely new 125 barrel from yamaha with a completely new yamaha piston. Piston rings.cyllinder head and gaskets would be much more than 450 pounds, right ?
dosent feel any diff with an athena exhaust or a dep, and tbh the only noticeable difference is in the top end, like 10 - 15mph more maybe. if you've got the gearing uprated for power and carb/jets done, then yeah, you'll get a little extra throttle response/power too, but not £400's worth of noticeable difference, i'm highly considering selling mine on and sticking to stock engine.
lovin mine but i got it proper cheap so im not even fussed if it breaks. got a 260 jet to test out today just put it in an its started nailing it down with snow outside
