The problem is that the tower of the computer doesnt want to turn on now for some reason and was wondering if anyone could give any ideas what it could be??
Supposadly my brother was on the net and it just cut out for no reason, i had a look at it myself and after decided to see if it was the power cable by replacing it with an old working one but still no luck, normally when you plug it in by the mains it boots up for a second but doesnt do that either
funny thing is powers definatly getting through the tower as the speakers are on as well as a 4 way usb adapter thingy (which is powered through the tower) also i noticed that when i unplugged it the caps/num/scroll lock flickered and when i plug it back in the power button flickers??
Any ideas, cheers in advance
Unless you have a power supply tester the only way you're gonna know is to whack a new PSU in.
If you have any local computer shops take the tower in and ask if they can test it quickly, we do it at work all the time. Then you can just buy a new PSU from them or they will probably offer to fit one for you
The warranty they sell you is bogus. For a product of that price you will get a 4-6 year warranty by law. It's not the manufacturer that has to replace, it's the company you bought from. Read up on it...I studied law and my 48" tv went boom after like 2 years, got it replaced eventually after about 6 months and I finally threatened court action. They don't have a leg to stand on. Funniest part is that I haggled it from £700 to £525 smackers with a free wall mount in dixons ahaa

Sounds promising, ill have a good read on that act then, thanks for that mate :)
Haha build it myself, your having a laugh are'nt you? ;) I wouldnt know where to start and dont think mother would trust me anyway lol seeing as its her money :)do you know if its normally cheaper and better mate to get a local computer shop to build one than going to buy a standard tower??
But yeah as said before could do with two pcs so were still going to get the faulty one fixed/replaced as well as a new one :)

Still havn't found the time to sort it out yet but as we could do with two computers at home going to get a second in the meantime, so what brand new tower would you lot recommend? looking to spend up to 400 solely on the tower itself as dont require monitor, keyboard etc as we already have these :) Intended use is basically for coursework and surfing the net if it helps
Or maybe best place to get one from for that kind of money??
Best bet is to either build it yourself or get someone to build you one Or if it's only for basic stuff just replace the PSU in yours? Will cost £5-10 tops
Reef mate i can help you out if you like, i do it for a living, chuck a few quid my way to go towards my bike i can build you something for about £350 :)
Maybe mate, ill talk to mum tommorow and see what she thinks as its her money and then ill let you know bud, tho what could you ruffly build for that and would it be a cracked windows or genuine?? :)
Now for £400 nuggets you can get a semi decent system. More than capable to do what you need it for.
Although you get more for your money building it it is hassle.
My advice would be to buy a nice simple generic system off dell website or PC world. £400 is more than enough to get what you would want from a desktop. Ok so not a gaming rig but more than enough to suffice what you need.
I would build one only if I wanted it to do particular jobs well.
Any computer nowerdays WILL do word processing etc and surfing the web.
Thinking about it its probably easier and safer to buy a standard already made tower from a big company as ill probs be more covered if any thing goes wrong (guarantee, warranty etc.) and it saves the hassle of choosing the parts for it and getting it to my house, but you may be able to persuade me, lol, sorry sean mate :)
Why? I've never noticed anything different between the 2.. Apart from price, Can't imagine how much a genuine windows 7 ultimate would cost
OP: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280833123434?item=280833123434 Saw this on eBay this morning and thought it wasn't too bad for the doh! Dual core 2.7ghz 8GB RAM 1TB HDD DVD writer Just need an OS and the rest of the hardware and away you go!

Thats pretty good mate from the looks of it, ever heard of the make mate, if so any good??
If i got it would any one be able to sell a windows 7 install cd for cheap, as well as microsoft word/powerpoint, genuine of course?? ;) ;) ;) pm if you can
No mate. Pentium processors are pretty old school mate. Which explains its price. The HDD is probably 5200RPM as well. Not a problem just would explain the low price.
Mate you said you've got £400 to play with. Just cause the specs look good doesn't mean it would be.
I don't rate pentium processors even if it is dual core.
Just keep having a look about.
I have got a copy of windows 7 and Microsoft office 2010 (not genuine though)
I think to go down the non genuine you have to be a little tech savy otherwise you could accidently brick your computer lol. Pretty obvious mind.
Probably could do us tho for what we need it for, it even comes with a 1 year warranty which is pretty persuading as well as all the specs but ill keep looking just incase i see anything better, mi mum would probably prefer to spend around that price anyway.
Ar have you, I may be in touch then?? :)
And yeah im alright with computes, ive done plenty of formating and reinstalling windows on many occasions so thats no biggy, and tbf theirs plenty of tutorials of youtube and you guys and m8s to ask ;)
With a cracked Windows you must NEVER update the computer. Else you might install a patch which checks for counterfit products!
That said you can update you just have to read what the update includes.
The office isn't a problem though. That is simply knowing how to patch it! (Very easy).
Better than spending £60 on software which in a year or so will be out dated.
Also with non genuine Windows you mustn't allow it to auto install drivers as this may lead to auto install updates. Can be a pain in the bum if you don't know where to go to find the drivers. I haven't had that problem but if your not carefull you could!
Sweet mate, yeah use to run a cracked windows xp back in the days, bit annoying but its good if you get them for cheap, but yeah mates jus offered windows 7 ultimate for free but ill probs get hold of you if he cant find it :)
