Kick start not engaging
Permalink

Hi guys.I have a problem with my kickstart. When i push it down slowly it goes freely down.If i try to kick it fast it will engage but not always.I removed the case cover to check it and everything seems fine.

I tried again by hand without the cover to see if something was wrong.

I can't understand how the hole mecanism works. What pushes the kickstart  gear to engage on the other one?

Literally just wrote up a tutorial on how the kick start mechanism works - http://dt125r.activeboard.com/t48215922/dt125re-kick-start-conversion-tutorial/

You should check the forum before posting. See if that helps.

If not then ask the question again.

I have the same problem atm, im also getting a clicking sort of noise coming from the rh side of the engine when out on the road. Im guessing the spring hasn't seated properly. I will investigate shortrly.
Has anyone else had this problem? Did you manage to get i sorted gasto?

No but if you took your kick start off then worked from the tutorial it would be the same as the conversion. The DTRE /X is the same engine without the kickstart. So if you took it all off, followed the tut you might find what is missing!

Check teeth. Check return spring. Check idle gear. Check primary gear. Check that the kick start mechanism is not broken.

Well the problem is the circlip behind the gear that seats in hole in the crankcase. It is part 8 in the diagram https://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p488/calum122/DT125/KickStartMechanismDiagram.png
Take the kickstart off and try to bend it a little and try again.Actually this clip pushes the gear forward so it can engage with the other gears.
