Well a brown tan indicates that the engine is in good condition. If you've just done a full gasket top to bottom then you must have oiled up the cylinder and the piston like any good mechanic. So you would have oiled up the engine sufficiently therefore more oil is going to be burnt. To see smoke is a good thing as you are running a two stroke engine. If it's spluttering loads with loads of smoke and struggling to pull then check the oil pump. You can adjust the amount of two stroke given to the engine by some little pulleys. The oil pump runs off the throttle. No throttle no oil. I've always adjusted mine so that when I shut of the throttle oil still flows. This is important as when going down hill you tend not to blip the throttle hence starving the engine of oil.

So take the oil pump cover off and have a look at the oil pump. If your not sure what to look at then pull the throttle back and see the wheel turn. There are notches on the wheel. If its not set to zero then you may be over oiling it or under oiling it. Have a look it might be somethin obvious.

Pre-mix ratio for 2 strokes can vary from 30-1 all the way to 50-1, personally I prefer to run pre-mix for mine at 40-1.
