Have any of you fitted a longer gear lever? If so what fits? I'm having trouble changing gear with size 10 MX boots. Cheers Clarkie.

I know the thread is a bit dated, but swapped the gear lever off my XT600, about 1 1/2" longer than the standard DT lever, and it's steel not alloy, so it can be shaped to contour the flywheel cover.

Cant use my MX boots with current lever which is a ****ter as just laid out £160 on em.

A vice or a clamp should do it,, you can even do it on the gear shaft spline if I remember right.

Cheers Nev, I'm a pen pusher so always have to ask these things or they end up in more than one piece. Where did you buy yours and is there any particular year?

from looking it seems the xt600 and xt 500s use the same levers so this brand spanking new 500 lever should work a treat

I cant tighten the bolt any more to pull the lever together when on the shaft. I might try squeezing the lever a fraction in a vice to close it up a little first.

I bought one for the XT600, fitted it on but its a little too big. It stays on with the bolt but it has some movement when on the shaft. Will this damage the shaft eventually?

Can't see why it's loose kebabby, my XT600 gear lever fitted nicely on to the DT spline, all I can suggest is to wrap some PTFE tape(white plumbers tape) on to the spline then re-try
