mine the main light only comes on once the engine is running, till then it's just the sidelight, think its to do with the year of the bike?

Yeah however if I start my bike then kill it the main beam stays on. However just turning it on turns the side light on :\

Only my indicators and brake light work without the engine running. I thought about rewiring it when i got the bike, but i had to many other problems to deal with.. surely it wouldn't be that hard?

i seem to remember theres a red/yellow wire that runs from the stator to the switch, im thinking this is power for the lights off the stator so i swapped it with a brown and it worked lights then, ill have a play at weekend,

Mines the same NORFE without engine running just get the break light & Indicators to work. I Could do with some info on that myself as its a right pain I had my engine overheat at one stage so I had to do a quick pull over and kill the engine I live in the country where they don`t have street lamps (TRAMPS) lol. So that was a gutter as I was on a national speed limit stretch in the pitch black darkness had to piss in the rad tank as temp fix till I got it back home (Not Recommended either) lol

Sorted it today !

lights work when ign on

so take all the cowling off you need to get to the light switch connector & ignition connector

first unplug the lights switch and remove the red & yellow wire and connector from its plug and insulate

then tap in to the brown off the ignition switch connector block and then plug that in to the light switch block.....

 and it works fine

lights and what ever run off the loom, engine charges the battery when running so no problem

Thanks mate, i get what you have got to do, i was just hoping to see how you have done it.. before i start butchering my loom, lol

But no worries, i have been having a think about how to go about it since you posted up how straight forward it is. I think i have it sussed, haha ..i will let you know how i get on.
I will feel a lot safer knowing that if i ever break down on a dark dual carriageway, I've got more then a couple of crappy little arrow indicators to let other road users i'm there :)

On a side note, found much of interest while out with the metal detector? I've been toying with the idea of getting my dads out of storage. Now i'm living in Suffolk i want in on some of that Anglo Saxon gold! lol

Brake doesnt work? Red lights on back but not sure if its showing brake light on or night light on?when i pres either brakes there is no change? Before i carried out mod, the brake lights worked without the engine running?
