Also, there's a DTR 1990 on eBay which does "70mph" according to the seller. Is it due to lack of de-restriction or is it probably to do with the engine being old as hell?

Not something you would declare as it's just maintenance on two strokes. When you bore it out you have to bore the gasket and the valve ports out!
Also make sure that there are no burrs on the ports as the rings could get caught and snap. I don't like the idea of boring out the cylinder as you can only do it twice or so.
What I'm going to do is have a company bore it and then zinc plate it back up to standard size.
NORFE had a link for someone on eBay that he'd reccomended.
Engine wise yes. Bar one or two things. RE has no Kicker however all you need is a few bits and that would be sorted and the R has no leccy. Once again you would only need a few parts to put on on.
RE is once again a little bit more restricted than its predecessor.
Panels and graphics are different. The frame is near enough the same. Subtle differences.
Lol That DT. The guy was on this forum and got absolutely SLATED! His user name is DTR 1990 (Aka the theif). Sumit like that. Don't buy from him!
Well mate theres loads of factors which affect speed. We don't know what his gearing it. Whether it's restricted. Whether the engine's just had it's day.
When I bought mine a few years ago I got 85 out of it down the motorway. Probably wouldn't do that now lol.
But they can go faster just take longer to get there and whether the engine can pull it. Personally I've set it up to rip maggots up round town lol.
The yamaha's YPVS system ensures bottom end power which is nice. The newer models shut off at higher RPM so power seems to stop. Good and bad thing really. Good thing is that you can't pin the bike at stupid RPM cause to put it simply it just doesn't get there. Bad thing is you can't pin it at stupid RPM cause it dont get there lol.
Can be rectified though like most restrictions lol.
i bought my dt with 19 k on the clocks i took the head and bore off to check them they wer slightly scratched on mine but put it back on now im on 24 on the clocks and beween broken speedo cable and broken clocks arfter it got stolen i must of did 2-3 k or so and mine runs fine

ZINK PLATING?? thats a new one lol...do u mean nicasil composit plating mate
dont do it ! its £125 a go at most places, will only last once cant be rebored
you will be better having it sleeved £207 and you will get 4-5 bore sizes out of it alot more cost effective
I'm new to the 2 stroke game and the general impression I get is, if the 2T has 20k+ mileage, then it no doubt needs boring out?
Also how much is boring out likely to increase your insurance by?
Doesnt neccessarily need a rebore with that milage, mines done 19k and my uncles has done 21k still dont need a rebore, just depends how looked after they've been, and how smooth the engine sounds :)

Cheers for the help guys, boosted my confidence in the DT 125 again lol. I was a little worried soon as it got past 20k, the piston chamber was likely to be ballsed you'd have to fork out and basically buy a new engine or something.
Ive got a 2006 dtX shes so far done 25257 n runnin sweet ran it on semi synth 2t n changed the bikes engine oil regularly n its never given me a moments trouble Its had the pv wire done also this was on a v old thread that i cant find , iset the pulley hole 4 pv 5mm to the left of where it says in the manual n got better acc n better top speed im 6' 2" n 13 stone n i get an indicated 75+ on bypass so no need to worry about the DTs in my opinion they are bullet proof !! i remember the 2ts of the 70/80s old gt suzukis n yam rds then the lcs that was unreliability unlike nowadays they seem built to last ! well at least engine wise not so impressed how durable the frames are to rusting tho .. sorry 4 the essay just got carried away :) Dave
yeah not like a car ect dont pay to much atention to the milage stated chances are its already been bored out or even engine changed or even diff clocks in its life ..
would sugest go for a older bike much better than the new models and seem to hold or go up in value and sell better .
reading above also £150+ for rebores ect you can buy full engines for less and change them over with in hours
Hmm my rings went last night on way to ace cafe...I think the rings anyway...spat them out the exhaust looool. Mines done 13,500 miles on original piston and rings etc...
