got on my bike this morning for a spin around the lake district.what a great day its being.even whent of rd for a hour up to a old slate quarry.great fun
Great place to be , on a DT, I am jealous , the only times I have been over in that area has always been on the touring bike and that is a handful on some of them roads still good but would love to come over on the DT when I get it sorted and have the time
yea its a great place.just got to watch for sheep haha.when you get your dt sorted get yourself over to cumbria theres some great tracks over the fells.
I would love to , need to get some practice for trail riding if the experience in the IOM was any thing to go by, mans ability and mans ambitions were not exactly on the same level , the other thing ,Is knowing which trails are still ok to use ,have been thinking if all goes according to plan may have to have a look at joining the TRF is any one on here a member ?? is it worth it do we think ??
I was thinking of joining the TRF Dorset / Devon myself even sent emails to them enquiring about joining still haven`t heard anythink from them though & that was about 2 months ago. Also I have read mixed views about the TRF some good & some not so good.
You don't need to join the TRF to go green laning. Get yourself an OS landranger map (libraries for free or http://www.dash4it.co.uk/store/ for cheap) and look for byways. Google green laning in your area and there might be a local forum or club. One thing though, don't go out on your own - it's much harder to get the bike off you when noone else is there
TRF (Trail Riders Federation ),the Idea is that they inform you of which green lanes are legal to uses as it is a very gray area of which are or are not usable after ,Government medalings trying to pleas the nambys and close all non tarmac ed trails to motorised vehicles so OS maps are not all ways disisev and there is no clear signage as there is in the IOM ,but have not spoken recently to any one in the TRF to know how active it is now adays
Each county council should have what is known as a 'Definitive Map'. Amongst other things this will show all of the byways in the county and give their status e.g. open, closed, restricted. This will obviously tell you which ones you can ride.
If you are going to ride on byways it's always a good idea to have an OS map with you even if it's out of date. If you are stopped by a council/ police officer or even an angry local at least you can show them where you think you are on the map. If you're not actually where you think you are they will soon let you know. Just apologise and make your way back to where you should be.
I have worn that T shirt, and very good at playing Little Boy Lost ,I was, all full of apologies, but don't tell the wife will you she's not so forgiving .

"trail riders fellowship" lol. the trf is still goin strong, my dads a member and goes for rides out with them, but imo they seem a bit to serious about things n a bit boring, from what iv heard anyway lol , but there the only ones fighting to try and keep these lane open for us,
As you get older you tend to take things a little more serious , and you will find that as you go through life there is no such thing as a free meal , if we want to use the byways or green lanes or what ever they are calling them to day ,some one has to do the leg work boring as it may be so these guys have my respect but will admit that to get you young guns to chip in with your youthful energy they have to make it fun as well or if not we will end up only being able to get our bikes dirty on organized tracks that charge us loads of money for the privilege that puts tight young old Yorkshire lads off riding bikes with funny tyres on that have big lumps sticking out all over the place , it would be a shame if we lost all the trail riding to the walking brigade even though I must admit to wearing both hats as I do enjoy a bit of walking as well when time allows , but have not done any trail riding until last year and would love to do more but I ended up on one or two that were shall we say a little challenging and soon realized that I need to get some one that knows what trails are what so thought that the TRF might be a good starting point for a green lane L rider ,on the roads I have done many miles south of France Scotland IOM but on them trails its back to L plates but ha ho I am loving it ,who says you cant teach an old dog new tricks , if that is true I must not be as old a dog as some would seem to suggest Ha Ha
