I've noticed that i have quite a few loose spokes, problem is that the spokes turn when i try and tighten them. The spokes (including threads) had been painted silver by a previous owner, ive cleaned up the threads with a wire brush and given them a spray with wd40, but still they just spin.
Anyone else had this problem and know of a solution?
When you tighten spokes you need to do them equally each side. Make sure they're balanced properly. You might wana ask for more details off someone who knows a little bit more.
Yeah I wouldn't tighten them.. I tightened the loose spokes on my front wheel and turned it into an egg shape, was fun for half a mile until it got quite annoying haha
Best bet is to just buy a whole new set mate and do them all at the same time. OR buy a used rim off someone or a scrappy. I managed to get a used front wheel for £30 from a scrappy. Excellent conditions as well. Well all things considered.
Thanks mr karnage, i watched a few of them vids too, and was what i was planning to do until the spokes decided they were going to just turn.. but with a bit of perseverance, wd40, wire brush, and mole grips, i managed to take the slack off a couple of them. But i got bored of it and decided to try and sort my power valve out instead, lol. Im going to order a spoke wrench before i go at it again i think, should make things a bit easier..i hope!
