The piston in my tdr is knocking around, too small or rings too small? dont know havent had a good look yet, piston has 050 on the top so i assume its been rebored twice, can it be bored out again?

Even if it can't be rebored you could have it replated.

I imagine after that sort of life you'd want to be thinking about a full engine rebuild IMO. Get the top replated back to standard and the bottom end rebuilt. Be expensive mind. I would just want peace of mind. I think it would outlast me anyway. Cause I know how I ride is fine it's just the previous owners :\

yeah i see what your saying, the previous owner of my tdr was a big welsh bloke and he didnt have a clue about bikes, used to run it with no water and took it offroading with 3 people im guessing as i can see where the wheel has worn into the tool box

tbh i think ill probably look for another engine unless i can get the parts i need cheap, thanks

I'm pretty sure you can go more than 0.5 millimetre. I think it's something like 1.25mm. Check the P.V. Fail post.

Plus personally I would rather spend the money getting my bike rebuilt fresh and then knowing that it has got no history as opposed to buying an engine from a scrappy where you don't know its history.

All I was saying is that after 2,3 or how ever many rebores, eventually the bottom end will go.

But DT's and TDR's are built like tanks. I mean the bottom end bearings are oversized anyway to accomodate reliability. You shouldn't have any problems. Just check for usual wear and tear.

Mate there is no need to replate, just go up a bore size and get a piston to match. At +.50 your barrel should have plenty of life left in it. I have a +2.00 TZR piston in mine! Oh and TZR pistons can also be used to get extre bores out of your barrel as they over lap in sizes, can't remember by how much, but worth looking into if your bore is just worn, and not scratched to ****.

While you have the topend off, check the big end bearings etc then, they might not be to bad..

okay, just changed the head gasket last night and mentioned to my dad earlier in the day i heard a knocking noise so whilst the head was off we had a little look and the piston could be moved around abit, was getting dark though so didnt have time to have a proper look

the bike runs pretty well tbh but i do want to get this sorted so i wont have anymore problems, so you reckon just get it bored out a little bit more and i wont have any problems?
