Don't know if this is the right place to ask this.

Absolutely no idea how to get the sodding thing off, spent an hour on the internet trying to find out even looked in the haynes manual which doesn't mention it and phoned a yamaha dealer.

Best thing I could find was this picture

http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?PageiD=24&modelID=9133&m=YAMAHA+DT125R+++2000+STEERING&uID=0

I want to get number 16 out, I have removed the cap, washer and rivet so the only thing left in is the barrel but it just feels like it's locked in there and there is no way to get it out.

The only thing I can think of is if you need to somehow turn the key to remove it - because I don't have the key it never came with the bike :(

I had one on my old DT :( used it all the time

Nah it's unlocked at the moment just the key is lost, know what you mean about pikeys already got a good lock for when it's at mine I just found steering lock useful if you have to leave bike out of sight for a minute like at a shop or something at least it means they can't just wheel it round the corner when you aren't looking - I may just find a lightweight disc lock and keep it in my jacket tbh.

To get a new key on it I have two options really

Buy a new barrel + key set

Get a new key cut

Either way I was aiming to get the barrel out even if not replacing to take it to a lock smith, I suppose I could just ride it to them but bike is in pieces at the moment so will just have to be done when it's running.

There is literally no information on the net at all, when I phoned up a couple of yamaha dealers they were pretty stumped and said it wasn't possible to order a new key against my vin.

Seen a few on here powdercoat frames, surely they had to be removed somehow?

I used the steering lock all the time. What happened. Bastards knocked the barrel off and unlocked it with their thumb. Great crack. I feel really stupid now lol. Thats how easy it was. I was practically saying 'Hey please take my bike!'. O well lesson learned. Can't have nothing nice in life.

Yeah I agree it does **** all if they want to rob it, a steering lock isn't going to stop them. I just think it's more obvious trying to break a steering lock outside a shop than just being able to push it away. Lightweight disc lock it is I think though, that's the good thing about having a baggy enduro jacket thanks for the help guys, probably ain't worth the money of a lock smith having to cut a new key from scratch anyway.

Just found this on ebay..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUINE-YAMAHA-DT125R-STEERING-LOCK-BARREL-KIT-21-99-POSTAGE-/190677915329?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2c654a16c1

If it isn't to hard to fit i'd be interested in getting one myself, and for the same reason really, just for peace of mind when i have to pop in a shop etc.

there shout be a little metel pin around the out side i think you need to drill that out or you might have to take the stem out the headset and there might be a retaining clip on the inside you need to nock if if that doesnt work take the stem out and just drill it to **** till it falls out lol

I know steering lock is pointless but for like 5 mins in and out of a shop it's worth it. Especially If you've got an alarm. Just steering lock it, chirp the alarm and back in five minutes.

Ah never saw this

Yeah I drilled it out toy but then it wouldn't budge, like is put in with some sort of clip that meant it couldn't be removed, gave up after a while - that's exactly what I did with my old one calum guess I took it for granted

I've got different discs and none of my disc locks work on them now..
