Misfire after riding through water
Permalink

Right, went out laning a couple of weeks ago and the DT started misfiring after going through water. I thought it was electrical so I caned everything with WD40. This didn't sort the problem. Later I found out the airbox wasn't sealed properly (previous owner was a muppet!) and was full of river crap. So cleaned up the airbox and resealed it. Also stripped and cleaned the carb. Put it all back together and it was fine.

Went out laning again Sunday and first ford crossing it starts misfiring again FFS. This time it cleared after a while so I'm now thinking it's defo water getting in the electrics.

So, before I start replacing the ignition system bit by bit (already put a new plug cap on) does anyone know of any common DT faults?

Cheers,

Gary.

iv had one of my bikes do same b4 wenever it rained ha
it was water getting in the coil where the ht lead goes in
give all the connections a spray then dry em off with a hair dryer

then coat exposed bits with silicone sealer

if ur doing alot of off roading the more weather proof u make it the better

u can just peal the silicone off when its dry if need be

Yeah the coil was going to be my first look. I'll have a go and let you know how I get on.

Cheers.

Sometimes it's just sludge from the fuel.
