So, just making conversation. Why did you choose a dt 125 out of all 125cc`s out there ?, Ill start.
I was really going for a Honda nsr 125, but my dad disagreed and told me that a bike like that encourages fast riding, he would much rather have me buying a dt 125 because they were not fully as fast. He said. at first i didnt want a dt, But found a cheap one on the internet, and went to look at it, It wasnt in perfect condition, But the engine was in good shape, And that was all that mattered to me,
at that time it only had a gianelli exhaust, i was used to driving a stock Suzuki ts 50 x, And when i got myself ontop of this dt 125 re, I was shocked. I only took it for a short spin, just testing the acceleration, It flew up to 60 mph !, And well, I decided to buy it. After a short time. I fell completely in love !. And has loved it ever since. There have been bad times when i seized the engine and was totally sick of the piece of ****, But even though, Its a great bike and i really love it.
So. Whats your story ?, why did you choose to buy a dt 125 ?
Owned an Aprilia RS50 as my first bike (probably the best bike to have as a 16yr old imo). Loved everything about it. Not much of a speed demon myself. Prefer the bends. Was looking at buying the same model but the 125 next but just realised that i'd be paying an arm and a leg. Brother owned a DT at the time said Cal you should get one. So I warmed to the idea.. He obviously let me ride his a lot and I liked how it rode. Then I decided to sell up as soon as I was 17 and get a DT. About 3 months later brother sold his DT and bought an RS. *Facepalm.
i owned at ts50x aswell XD had a 70 bore full non road legel gianellie exhaust thing was loud as haha but well i liked going green laneing so wanted a offroader i looked at the ts 125 r the rx 125's then sore a dt at college and fell madly in love looks sexy feels nice =] and over a year later im siting hear wit a blow up dt that i love and dont ever want to sell XD
I previously owned a Derbi Senda 125 4-thump, which ran the re-named yzf 125 engine. I thought to myself after a year of riding the bike that i'd want to sell up and experience my first 2-stroke. So i did hours of youtube vid watching to get a good idea about all the different 125 offroad/supermoto type bikes.
I then joined the forums and got friendly, saw that Carl was selling up so i thought hey, i've got the cash here from my old bike let's go for it! Never looked back since, best bike i've ever owned upto yet, brilliant handling/braking/power and ultimately fun. I'm not some speed demon that wants to go 100mph in a straight line, i much prefer the supermoto style of riding and because of the DT i've fallen in love with Sumos.
I think a lot of you guys on here can agree with me when i say that you feel a connection to the bike, because you meet so many people randomly who either own a dt or have owned one in the past, it's awesome! Perfect example is today, went up my local bike garage who sell basically only dts (they've got 12 atm) and i met three random guys who all had different dts and it was just cool how we had a sound bit 'o banter!
I have loved them from being a kid at first watching my brother on his then getting my own first one at the age of 14 lol from that day have always had the odd dtr -lc and lots of kmx also I have pritty much had or ridden every bike going . but the dtr holds a place in my hart and loads of memmories .. think this may even rub of on my son as he will be 16 in a year and will get him started on maybe a ts 50 ect no peds then one day he can have my 1989 .
Before i had the mtx125r & i loved it to bits! smaller bike compaired to the dt & better handling, but in the space of a year it blue up twice, & chewed the spine up on sprockets from constant wheelies lol so i sold that bugger & then thought i'd give the dt a try, was looknig for one for months inpaintent :( Finaly i found one, the one. my one... my baby! oh i would do anything for love, but i won't do that. Nooo i won't do that. anyway.. i find that the dt is a good ride! really awsome for offroad/enduro! hasn't let me down ever, apart from the carb pissing about like a ****nose. I'm gonna enjoy the summer with it for sure : )
Energinized, I totally agree that you get a connection to the bike, When my bike passed 40 000 km i patted it on the fuel tank and said good boy. i really love it.
And im kinda a speed demon myself, even though the dt isnt that fast considering top speed, i rarely get myself to keep the speed limits. I love driving fast and passing cars and doing the turns high speed.
I`ve owned a number of off roaders over the years and love being on the dirt I started when I was around 12 years old usual schoolboy bikes in the 80s I`ve had a KX 80, CR80 big wheel,YZ 125, IT 250,CR250 so I had a love for the 2 stroke from an early age. Even though my first road bike was an MZ 50 lol. I went on to get an RD 80 then a AR 125 then I was missing the dirt and I bought my 1st DTR from a motorcross shop that was given in part exchange for another bike infact on one of the posts on here the old owner of that bike who bought it from new who lives in Tamworth put a post on here saying he was trying to track it down. I did reply but he never has contacted me proberly because he said he would give a reward for information about the bike lol. Then I eventually passed my test then had a zxr 400 sold that for my beloved GSX-R 600. Lost my licence for 2 years for Dangerous driving I didn`t bother with riding & Driving for another 3 years that brings me to being back on L`s and being on my Black baby now I went for the DT as I live rural and its a good all rounder really use it for Greenlaning and for getting out and about 2 stroke till I die Amen. ...
Well my DT is a thing of beauty. Where it may not be as strong as other bikes on the market, she's reliable and dependable when needed most. So a thing of elegance and class in my opinion is characteristics of a female :D
yeah not to fast nor to slow . not to fat or to thin . can brig a big smile to face instantly it touchs my lower body . also a cheap ride and can look great and be ready to go again after a little wash .........he he
im just happy i bought a dt 125 re and not a x, Cause with the x tires i wouldnt be able to have as much fun off road :D
I'm not very good off road. And once I sped $$$ on graphics and panels I won't fancy taking her off road. So Supermotards all the way. I'm going to hide my old tyres, panels for those cheeky days where I wana go up the hills. Simple change over and away I go!
I can see why a lot of you guys use your DT off-road, i mean why not? aspecially if you're on a budget, but for me i use my RM offroad and love my sticky sumo tyres to tear up the country roads, nothing better than filling up a full tank and just getting lost in the countryside in the sexy scenery
countryside roads are the beest roads you can get! for reasons 1. Not many cops at all to hassle or follow & give you smug looks 2. bend & twisting roads for a bit more fun 3. easy going no crazy traffic 4. great scenery! 5. good country pub to have a quick drink! ofcourse panda pop. 6. have a plenty of no mans land (feilds to have a blast on)
the bad points are If you break down & have no signal you're fudged.
Sounds like the uk countryside is a bit different than the norwegian.
But i love driving around in the forest, no people, No one to see me looking stupid if i fail wheeleing, Im not that good yet, but im actually getting better.
And driving a bit too faster than whats considered safe always gives you a bit of a kick :D !
wouldn't bother to much any way dude, all it does is mess up your chain & sprockets & on the rare chance your spine shaft will chew up on front front sprocket.. i know i did it lmao
