Put another engine in my bike that I`ve come across recently that i wanted to try yesterday. It had a new top end rebuild that the person I bought it of had put in. so It had never been running till yesterday. It started up all right and was running fine. Obviously I have taken it easy on the bike and managed to cover around 38 miles with stops. Then on my way home around 11pm last night it started to splutter as if it was running out of fuel then cut out and I wasn`t able to get her to kick over again so and I ended up having to push the bike for the last 1 1/2 miles home any ideas people?

That's strange, so it defo wasn't out of fuel then lol? I'd say maybe a piston defect or something to do with the top end....piston could have been shagged and boom, no compression?
Sounds like a possible semi-seizure mate, did you bleed the oil pump properly,, as thats a common cause. Piston will be skrawked down both sides only, if its a semi.
lubed up the cylinder and piston before starting the engine up with a little 2 stroke but thats about. So no I didn`t mate will be investigating today to see the cause of the problem. I was going to refer to images I have of different pistons that have seized or had other problems as you know all pistons have a story to tell.
Little update Changed the plug as the geeza that sold me the engine had fitted a BRS8 so I changed it to a BRS9 she kicked over 1st time and seems fine yet to try it out of course. So I may not need to drop the head off after all or should I still ?
Nah looks like thats yer problem sorted mate. more than often than not, it's something so stupidly simple its overlooked, nip plug out after a good rideout though, and check the colour, its a big way of telling you whats going off engine running wise.
if changeing the plug has solved it and it sounds good with no rattles or bangs ect then you may have sorted the problem .....I have had the br8 in the past and mainly on import engines like the 4dl .. not sure why they are used think its something to do with pressure and altitude ? of bikes in other countrys ????
one problem I had to start with on the tz 4dl was as said the br8 so changed that and then it would die after about 2 miles and no start.. du to blocked breather on tank causing a vacume= stopping fuel
Shes been fine did up until around 40miles earlier and the same thing happened I had all my tools and spares with me this time as I didn`t fancy walking back again like the other night so I dropped a new plug in headed for home cleaned the filter gave the carb a clean and slight adjustment went back out did another 40 miles and had no problems since. Well part from a rear puncture in the rear tyre lol nice slippery slidey ride home for me. Will do a plug check tomorrow after I`ve slapped next tube in the tyre
