nah deffo 250 ml per 10 litres of petrol making it 25ml per 1 litre of petrol making it 40:1 thats what that ratio buddy program gave me anyroad,

like this look

Aye 32:1 gives me 31.25 ml/cc per litre of fuel

After the bastard thing bogging down and scraping like mad I expected the piston rings to be shattered but after inspection seems like it's seen better days but not too bad

Piston is obviously getting replaced but what about the barrel? I've never dealt with one before I don't know if this is general wear and tear, needs re honing or a re bore and oversized piston - the sides just seem slightly scored but one of the ports especially looks like it's had small chunks knocked out of it. I've tried to picture them as best as I can.

Probably a simple question, but got to learn somewhere smile

Also there was coolant in the cylinder, is this something to worry about? But to be fair it could have been from removing the head.

now I'm not 100% but i'd guess on that being an RD piston, no other it could be, DT N TZR non windowed

Funky might know better

Also notice the windows in the barrell look pretty much squarer too.

Works for me. I'm on max  re-bore mind, you may not need max, just next one up, but I used the old school TZR piston on mine,  not the newer one. they do differ.

How come a tzr one?

Not sure what size bore it should be, or just find a company to work it out?

You sure you were getting 2t oil to that piston Harry? another few miles on that and it loks a semi-sieze mate. the bogging down gave it away.

I don't know how I can be sure, yeah I'm glad I stopped tbh looks like it did me a favor by not seizing

Cable was pulling the pump fine, and the bottle was topped up. On the re build I'm replacing it with see a see through hose so I know it will be pumping

Don't trust myself with pre mix tbh, especially if I want to go for a long ride it seems far too much planning and calculating

Btw the top of the piston is quite dark, the flash makes it look really light

premix all the way.....oil pumps are poop...... if you still want to use a pump, you can get the parts to rebuild them from yam and not massively expensive. not compared to a top end rebuild anyways biggrin

250 ml of 2t oil in a small plastic bottle goes fine in a jacket pocket Harry, plus if you fill up at home you should have at least a hundred miles per 10l tank to get you pretty much anywhere.

Mmm good points, but when you brim it and have to then work out how much fuel you have put it xD

Also can you just pour it in? Without mixing it

Yep bang 10litres of petrol in to fill up, plus adding in 250ml of 2t , gets you 100 miles back home, jit works out at 25 ml of 2t per 1 litre of fuel. that gives you a ratio of 40:1.

25mm to 1 lt of fuels 25;1 int it nev

my crs used to run at 32;1     32mm of oil per 1 lt of fuel

40;1 would be 40mm of oil to 1 l of juice surely???????????????????????  confuse ha

Not going to lie - I'm lost now haha

So what should I get, a re bore and a TZR over sized piston? Don't want to be buying the wrong things

Now I've had this convo before in here Gadge, it's something to do with higher compression than the DT one,

But if you really, really, really want to know why the TZR is better than the DT, ring this number and ask for Dave,
he'll be able to explain much better than me, 01274 530282

It bogged down if you got it to 80 and let off the throttle until it got down to about 70mph

Wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't been done right before.

So I would just give it to a specialist and say I need it the next size up, or do I have to find out the current size and what it needs going up to myself?

take it/send it to an engineer and they'll tell you what it needs. most engineers i've dealt with will supply pistons too so they can match them properly smile

Cheers will do :)

So if this is the wrong piston, the barrel also isn't incorrect if it worked alright? As in I would be able to use a dt / tdr piston in this barrel

Going to take the stuff to work to measure just so I have an idea on the oversize myself

Ironically I make pistons / heads / con rods for a living but only just learning the details all I know is how to machine them haha

Deffo take it to work and get someone to measure it,they might even be able to bore it after you buy the right piston, and if your realy realy lucky they might be able to make you a piston lolololol happy days
