so this lot came through the post today biggrin

off a 2002 model to match the rear wheel i already had

wheel spacers and linkage is on its way,but i thought i'd put some pics up of the size up i had earlier. it'll fit but with grief hmm

fits in the frame, will need spacers...always a good start

engine fits, again will need spacers.... this is the gap in total (8-10 mm)

the dt linkage would need work to fit (grind the crap out of it)

and the shock cant/wont fit the dt linkage (its huge)

this is how much longer it is....linkage is as far down as it can go....

i'll try and grind the linkage 1st and retain the dt shock for the moment, see if it can be done biggrin

i'd say a rear DT shock would be a better bet, unless you can lose about 1 " off that gas shock by winding it up to max strength, looks a well soft ride does that.

prob is the better option. i figured out earlier that i need the little L shape piece of the yz linkage to make it work hmm ordered the whole thing as it might be easier in the long run confuse

Another way possibly is to use the older DT spring(the newer re white spring is narrower) onto that shock, may need to use the DT seating plates with the spring also.

biggrin they are the spacers for the swingarm... didnt know if i should fit them or wear them as rings...

not using that frame yet confuse its covered in mud as well as rust, looks worse than it is biggrin will have it blasted and re-inspect though. think the bloke i got it from kept it in his pond smile

well the linkage turned up. the horse shoe shaped bit is far too big to use or adapt hmm i think i can adapt other bits to suit.... the L shaped bit looks aout 5 mm too wide once the dogbones are on

nothing a grinder wont sort out biggrin gonna cut up an old linkage as a spacer (here comes the grinder again.....)

pulled the caliper off to clean/check/replace brake pads etc... can anyone spot the difference?

wtf? really? the metal on metal squeal didnt give it away?

so this is starting to smell a bit pooey... although it can be made to fit,i think it will need a one off linkage made no plus if its wrong,it'll be a bit tall....

i'm rapidly starting to wonder why i dont just get a yz and put a dt lump into it to get what i'm after hmm or just buy a ktm exc.....

so this got a little further today,in a one step forward/two back kind of way. dont think i like how i've made it work/botched it either.

for the time being i've given up on the shock (needs a custom made linkage,so that will be later on) made it fit the dt shock, which has stiffened it up like hell. the only way i could make it work was by cutting up the yzf linkage to use as dog bones confuse i also had to cut the frame a little (lucky this was  spare) i'll plate over with fresh steel once its all sorted

its added a fair bit of height to the bike too (i'm 6'2" and i have to tip toe on it biggrin)

i'll transfer this work to my off road dt next weekend, along with photos of the linkage bolt i had to make out of 2 linkage bolts... and then its destruction testing time, see if it works/holds out biggrin

you and me both! the dt shock/linkage wont work though disbelief even with no preload its too stiff hmm i did manage to get the yz shock on,its huge!!!!

the back of the rear mudguard touches me nipples biggrin and you could small kids/large dogs stuck between the wheel and rear fender

plus the spring would foul the cases between the swinger nono so its back to the custom linkages (same shape as the chopped linkage but with 165mm centres)

think i'll get some scrap steel bar 1st and experiment before i get them made......

my bit of stainless steel turned up on friday

500mm x 40mm x 6mm,started by drilling the holes. for some reason i changed my mind from 165mm centres to 170mm (total knobhead choice) and shaping the new dogbones

they are monster compared to the originals....

fitted well though....apart from the shock now fouling the swinger hmmhmm c0ck hmmhmm i'll re do them at a shorter length later.... it fitted up well though

it sits at about the standard height, will sit an inch taller when the bones are shortend

had to remove a panel bracket for the shock to fit,and grind a small amount off the upper shock mount for clearance

its gettin there though. still dont like the way i've mounted the dogbones no i think a y shape linkage machined out of steel would be better? any ideas? would at least leave the frame standard..... just want this finished now, before i source a 1997 YZ 125 frame biggrin

Looking good. Do you know if 2002 wr swingarms are the same?

sorry for the late reply bud! most of the yz/wr swingers share the same part number from 97 onwards. its the "if it aint broke, why fix it" approach. really must get round to finishing this too hmm

not just yet hmm got a bit side tracked building this

and its a ball ache lol soon as this is done i'll weld up the y shape linkage i need. once that works i'll get an engineer to make it properly. it can be done but its a lot of effort hmm same as anything different though i suppose
