I used to always wear gear on my zxr, you look a bit of tit riding around fully leathered up on a dt though lol.
I may look like a tit but a Tit with nipples still attached! My life is far more valuable than my ego and appearance. To both me and the female population! :P
+ if you are really that bothered, MX style jersey and pants will slide right over and make you look like a super cool kid again and the sun will shine and birds will sing etc etc.

I know a few of you (Toy) don't wear much gear, from my vast experience you need to start, my highside was a 10-15mph bash and i still got annhilated, if i wasn't wearing my leather's i can bet i'd need a skin graft plus i'd have alot of broken bones! Just owd Nathlaad looking out for his boyz!
Now the piccies!
My Helmet took the brunt of the highside as i got flipped over and smashed my back then my head smashed the ground and i slid for a good 20 feet on my back/head
Even tho i was wearing my leather's and there are no petrusions in the i still managed to get a bit of a booboo
that was through leathers and a 3 inch thick pad on the elbow so i have absolutely no idea how that happened hahahaha!
When i rode my Dt i often went out with just a hoodie and jeans and sometimes no gloves. Since riding the RD i always wear full armoured jacket, armound bike trousers, boots and gloves. I will on the DT when its ready as well. Seen a few nasty ones in A&E since working in the hospital and even taken one out of the Resus down to the Mortuary after a bike accident. Listen to this lucky and sensible man and gear up no matter how far you're going. Lost a school mate on a ped on local roads with limited gear on and yet seen a friend slide under a 4x4 on a national speed limit road and walk away. You just never know whats around the corner so unless you're bored of life and extremely selfish, whack the gear on and live to ride another day!
im well over the top then boys one piece leathers with elbow armour then underneath . gearx full thigh leg knee an shin armour alpinstars full back plate shoulders an chest plates an kidney gaurd
theres even an azzole protector in the leg armour
an theres a big difference ridin with than riding without on the ol confidence scale its a bit like drink driving with armour without tho im pretty damn extra carefull
plus dtrs armour up the Mx armour looks the bollox anyway

I get stick all the time from randomers on their r1s in just a tee shirt and shorts when I'm blatting around in a tee shirt, hoody, then jacket over that, joggers underneath my textile overtrousers and then MDK boots on and carbon knuckle gloves. More the fool them when they lose limbs. I've come off 3 times since April, once was my own fault. It still pissing hurt wearing all this gear, twisted the ligaments in my leg/knee, broke my hand/wrist and cracked and broken ribs! My gear did **** all to help that obviously because that was blunt trauma from the kerb. Broken hand was from bending my thumb back on the handlebars when I went into the back off Mr Megane, third time was when some prick drove into me.. lol
Don't get pissed off with them rexx mate, just feel sorry for their families who will have to deal with it when they end up as a paste. One of the guys i work with is a fireman as well and says one time they were called to a bike accident, whilst they were clearing up they were looking for the head. The helmet was found but no head inside. They eventually noticed that the guys helmet had come off prior to impact and he hit a lampost dead on the top of his head. It had actually gone down inside his chest, taking his collar bones etc with it. They had spent ages looking for it!
Thats a quick death, imagine sliding until all your skin and flesh has come off an your bones are being ground against the floor. Like Rexx says, it hurts enough coming off with gear on. Feck doing all that without! I'll continue to "look a bit of a tit" and hope that when my time comes I hit something hard and end it all without the pain.
Oh yeah it's bound to happen at Some point. My dads police trained car and motorcyclist and had taught me everything he can about how to stay upright but you never know what some nutter is gonns do in a car. I'm in A&E today again and always stay friendly and helpful for the nurses and doctors in here. I'll need them to put me back together at some stage.
i remember coming off a pitbike with no gear on just normal clothes
well i flipped the bike doing about 30 or 40
wouldve smashed my face off the floor but put my arms out and rolled over, my palms were grazed to **** and were dripping in plasma and **** and i managed to tear my clothes in various places, even my t shirt under my hoody had gravel holes in
a couple week later i heard someone did the exact same thing and ended up with a broken cheekbone
Nath you're just bloody skin and bones anyway, need some fat lad! Just kidding
I don't go out without full gear, well never boots.. really need to invest in some
You should definitely get some proper boots! About £100-£120 for a decent pair.
You come off without any boots, you'll lose a toe(s) and break bones in your feet and ankle. That's if your foot doesn't need to be amputated. Stupid idea riding in trainers.
An old friend of mine was riding a field bike around a housing estate with no gear on and he had been drinking and wearing the same contacts for days, so couldn't see a thing and whacked his foot off the lamp post, he lost his big toe. All about the boots lad.
Plus if you get a dozy sod, kick their door and scrape your toe sliders down the side of their car.
I like this post...makes me feel better about you lot! I ALWAYS wear gear no matter how short the journey it. I wear a dainese armour thing...
I dont stand looking like that though...carbon or titanium gloves, hard dainese shin and knee protectors and Alpinestars Tech 7 or 9 boots...then mx gear over the top.
All I can say is, you will fall off. Might not be your fault, might not be for 5 years, but you will. If youre worried about looking like a goon...then just buy hard armour and wear mx gear over the top...or buy some armour then some kevlar jeans etc.
I rode back from the pub a while back..it was about 0.2 miles back to my house...put all my gear on like a bell end and im glad i did because the front end washed out on the cold tyres. The footpeg went straight down onto my ankle, still hurt like mad but it really gashed the boots - my ankle would have been toast.
My misses uncle used to ride bikes, he was riding home one day in the wet, not fast and turn a corner, car behind him noticed he had just disappeared. Wasnt going fast or anything so they turned back and found him in a ditch, hit some diesel at less than 30mph and is now paralysed. Shít can happen to anyone...gear doesnt make you invinvible but it sure helps!
One thing I always remember is that at only 30mph, tarmac will rip through your clothes and take your flesh down to the bone in less than 3 seconds.
