I picked up a cheap fairly good nick botttom end today but have noticed the flywheel has a great big silver lump on the end of it?? do some come fitted with that? everything else looks the same so am confused. This engine has 3BN03 Y1 and 4BL##### stamped on too.
Is the stator not compatable with my project bike which has 3MD01#### STAMPED ON THE ENGINE. I do remember reading somewhere that there were different versions.
This flywheel has obviously been off as there is no securing nut holding it on!-any one got one spare? lol
Looks like the weight has had a beating anyway so probably not much cop :(, also noticed some heat marks on the crank although it is smooth and no big end play?

The engine you've got there is a 1998-2003 (3RM) model, fitted with the correct stator and flywheel for that version. It's not very clear from the pics, but it does look like an earlier clutch cover is fitted to it with a 1989-1997 oil pump housing. The motor should fit straight into your 1989-1997 bike, just swap the stator and flywheel.
Engine numbers starting 4BL are the 1998-2003 model, 3MD is the 1989-1997 model.
Don't worry about the blue marks on the crank - lots have that.
Pretty sure the oil pump cover changed at the same time as the flywheel / stator and other 3RM parts Andy. However, they are interchangeable so it's easy to swap clutch covers over to avoid having to buy a different throttle/oil pump cable.
Mine must have been changed at some point then. It's a 1998 4BL but has the same style as in the photos. Might swap back at some point. I do much prefer the newer style. Not a big change but seems slicker to me!
Just had a look at parts manuals for the 1998 and 1999 and it shows the 98 4bl with the old style and the 99 when they changed to de031 as having the new style flat plate style cover.
