What's a DT worth these days?

Just trying to get a rough idea, how much would you expect to get for a 1997 dt, T&T, good working order etc. Seen a lot on ebay going for over a grand that haven't got MOT or need things doing. Thinking of getting something with a bit more poke and that would handle the rough stuff a bit better rather than spending loads on this tbh.

Cheers

it,s all down to condition as most dtrs are relativly the same year is not so important althou I would pay more for a older one than a 2000 + model

and I tend to stay clear of anything with monster energy stickers or realy over modded bikes as you have no idea who has had their hands in the engine or how well the work was done .

for a good older dtr with low owners and original engine ect I would say around 1500 -2000 mark now with ebay type prices . know a mate who bpaid £2600 for a totaly original white 1989 like mine with 3 owners but that is totaly untouched and looks like the day it came out of shop .

the price on dtr's are constantly going up and one day they will be a very sought after classic 125cc down to pure nostalga and love for in my mind one of the best 125 cc trails type bikes ever made ...

price it high you never know some one may pay what you ask or at most loads will make good offers close to your asking price

Part of me wants to keep it, just for the fact in 20 years time it'll be sought after like FS1Es are now. I mean 2t's are gonna be unheard of then I'd imagine.

Maybe, maybe not, all depends on if the fuel injection systems some companies are working on, at the end of the day 2t's aren't being produced due to the emissions they kick out, and I've heard that the fuel injection systems bring it down a tad. I do know that Aprilia did a fuel injection on their Ditech SR scooters and in comparison to the normal SR models the fuel emmissions were much lower, it would be a sad day if there wasn't any 2t's kicking about in 20 years time.

Surely there will always be 2 strokes around, just not in production maybe? They are like the AK47 of bikes

They will become less and less Harry, with more bikes being broken down to supply parts for ones left on the road needing them, till at some point they will be like hens teeth. Maybe not 20 years down the road , but more like 40.

Yeah. They're looking into direct inject for two strokes. I know Aprilia were having trouble with them.

Surely the problem isn't to do with fuelling though, it's the fact they burn loads of oil? someone needs to invent an oil that burns without giving off any emissions then there'd be no problem.

It's not sad as long as the likes of us continue to keep them alive. My Dad had a GT750 when he was about my age and has one again now. thats a 750cc triple 2-stroke!

I don't see me selling the DT.. ever suppose it's can't be that hard keeping them going far less parts than four strokes anyway

They actually piss away loads of fuel without using it.

Yeah thats why they invented the YPVS. Because of the loss of fuel meaning loss of power at low rpms. At higher rpm you're burning it all.

But still, they can easily fit injuection systems to two strokes, it's just the fact there's still gonna be flume of smoke behind you however efficiently the petrol's burnt lol. Oh well if I do sell the dt it'll be replaced with another 2t :D
