I just bought a new laptop and when I had a look at it I got this message saying this isnt a not genuine windows 7.. so thought id format and reinstall after deleting and reformatting it gets stuck at expanding files so i restarted the computer without the disc and now says BOOTMGR IS MISSING.
now i reboot off the wondows 7 cd and try to fix the bootmgr with command thingy and Ive tried to use bootrec /fixboot, rebuildmbr, and the other command cant remember what it was but havnt done the check disc yet.. but when done that and restart the computer without cd im still getting the same error.. Ive had this problem before but fixed it doing this.. but for some reason it wont fix it as ive tried about 5times last night. If there is anyone out there that can help or even give some advise then that would be great..
I was also thinking of using the windows xp cd and just deleting the partitions and starting again seeing if that would work for me.
I've come across similar weird problems in the past - normally just deleting the partitions and trying to install again does the trick easier than trying to fix the current one
Is the copy of windows you are using definitely good?
The disc that comes with new computers isn't a full operating system disc. It's just a recovery disc.
Do a clean install with a copy of windows. Or if you just want a computer that works then dowoad ubuntu since it's free and is a fully fledge operating system. Pretty impressive one also I might add.
Ah I just assumed it was the OS install, download it and burn it onto a CD. If you had a genuine copy before the license key will be on the laptop anyway.
Not at all. You can use a illegit copy of windows 7 better than an normal copy. For example.
Your product key may only entitle you to use Windows 7 Basic and you are therefore restricted to that operating system (Which is missing many key features)
An illegit copy will let you use any copy of windows you want. Or OSX Or Linux.
Example. I have in the past ran Windows 7 Ultimate Illegit. And it ran beautifully. With all the add ons and updates bar the piracy check.
I'm running a non genuine copy of windows ultimate and it's fine
I ran it on my parents computer but after a few months got the crappy non genuine message popping up, changing the desktop wallpaper and permanently adding text to the lower right of the desktop. After a while I managed to get rid of the pop ups and wallpaper changing but the annoying text still stays there - unless I re installed with another crack I doubt it would go away easily
Just saying, if you have already paid for a genuine key you may as well use it and not risk having to sort crap out like that unless for some reason you want to upgrade to a different OS or a different type (basic, ultimate) etc then go for it
The only reason you'd get a non genuine message come up is if you used a bad cracked OS or you accidentally did the update to check. Otherwise you'd never get it..
Yeah if you have downloaded it from a torrent site or somewhere with no key or crack then your best bet is to turn off updates for windows 7. I downloaded another windows seven as i tried to put my old OS onto usb and install it from there but as it was being moved over to the usb it had a few files missing to had to download another one. And this one works with online updates. so i guess thats why it wasn't installing eh?.. put new download onto cd and installed fine.. looks like my old disc is only good for old laptops as it would install on my pc and acer laptop but wouldnt on my sony vaio.
