Anyone know much about these bikes? This one was brought round to me last night for £150, i havent handed any cash over yet as i said i wanted to see it in daylight first. I warned him though that i didnt need day light to know that i wouldnt be offering him the asking price. Im hoping to get it for half that price..
And heres why...the bike has been pretty much run into the ground, it has no working brakes, leaking fork seals, chain & sprockets fooked, no coolant(!), rad fooked, expansion chamber fooked, oil pump cable snapped, swing arm bushes gone, and generally tatty... and thats just after a quick look with my morning cup of tea! I be heading back out in a min to give it a thorough inspection shortly.
On the plus side, the engine does just about start and run, and was pretty quick considering the state of it. It's a 04-05 plate with logbook. It has the same AM6 engine used by the Aprilia RS 50, etc.
So what do you guys think? Worth a punt? I would either turn it into a project, or break it on ebay.
Nah break it up, I need the front disc and caliper for mine, lol, seriously though they are a decent bike for a fifty, has the AM6 engine same as the DT50's, and you can also bang in an RS/RX 125 engine straight into it.
This is the one I'm sorting out for selling at the min, bought it a couple of years ago for £150 off a mate of my lads, 2003 plate, have ticklied it up a fair bit, just needs a couple of bits and bobs to finish it off.
This is how I bought it a couple of years ago.
All cleaned and sprayed up, added a few bits and bobs onto it, I'll be looking at around £550 - £600 when its all done. Has a performance Metra kit expanny and DEP silencer on it too.
I brought it...for the princley sum of £70! But i also have a fault list as long as my arm, lol. Atm im still cleaning off the years of built up grime, and its starting to look a bit more presentable..
Good job your doing there Nev, thanks for the input. If i decide to break it, you will be the first to know. I'm liking the idea of chucking a Rotax in it though i must say, in such a light weight chassis...woowhoo wheelie poppin fun!
That'll come up nice Fused, watch that sidestand though mate, mine snapped on me just after I'd sprayed the panels, fell over onto its arse and scrawked the panels down one side, made another sidestand using 8mm x 25mm bar. not a load of spare parts for it but give us a shout if you need owt, I know I have 2 rad scoop panels in that lime green kicking about, my main problem I had for ages was the wiring for the ignition barrel, I had 4 wires and 6 tabs, sorted it now but was a right pig dog. btw you'll know it has no battery as standard yes?
I hadn't put 2 and 2 together about the battery until you mentioned it! lol And yeah the stand is ****, bike went over twice while cleaning it, i've improved the stability a bit but its still ****. My loom is pretty butchered to, pics to follow..
Anyway i've spent the last few days tidying it up a bit and giving it a clean, looking a bit more presentable now:
Unfortunately one of the cylinder studs threaded in the crank case and another stud snapped up by the bolt while torquing the head down, so they are going to need replacing. Im going to have a go at welding the exhaust myself, lol. The other main things after that are the rear wheel bearings, rear brake pads, fork seals, and a new bush for the rear mono. I probably also get new exhaust springs as one is missing, and a new bracket for the clutch lever. And if possible i would like to repaint the frame white and redo the panels green. I cleaned and re-oied the air filter, and it will get a fresh plug and fluids. You might have noticed by now that i have decided not to break it(sorry Nev!), lol, but not much will be happening now until i move house, hopefully in 5-6 weeks, but i am looking forward to having a rip on it. I might even keep it for a lil while i get the hang of doing wheelies! :D Unless i come across some cheap clocks, ignition barrel etc i will probably just be returning it the the field rather then the road, but you never know..
Tellin ya a cracking bike for a 50cc, and like I say the Rotax 125 engine goes straight into it. Aye good idea Fused you keep it up on that back wheel mate, less wear and tear on the front disc and caliper lol, nah seriously if you do come across owt like brake calipers and front disc give me a shout, btw I have the plastic tank scoops in your green if needed.
I've just found out that these bikes share parts with a few other bikes like the peugeot xps and rieju. By the looks of it the furia shares clocks with the xps, so mine might make it back on the road yet :) I might be intersted in the scoops, they would be last on my list though, lol.
Have you been able to find a manual? Luckily i still have my Aprilia manual that covers the engine, but it would be handy if i could get hold of some info on the rest of the bike. Google got me no where..
Also found this that might be of interest to you Nev, not the geatest of pic but looks about right, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RIEJU-RS1-50cc-FRONT-BRAKE-CALIPER-GOOD-CONDITION-15-/350589349782?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUA%26otn%3D5%26pmod%3D130769583339%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D2199117009153090822
Aye thats the jobby cheers Fused, I flogged a Rieju 125sm last year and found that it also had a fair few parts the same, but still rare as hens teeth for parts. P.M me your email I have a couple of workshop manuals for the Furia, in PDF, I can send over to ya.
Firstly, NEV loved what you did there to that bike.
Secondly, fused just after you cleaned the bike it looked like a completely different bike. Makes you wonder why they just didn't do that and then sold it on for a bit more £££.
@Calum Thanks, The guy i brought it from didn't have a clue about bikes, and brought it on an impulse. He had a 2 min go on it then it sat in his sisters house for the next couple of months. She kicked him out so the bike had to go. He tryed telling me he had paid 200 for it but his sis had already told me he paid 100-120 for it, lol And yeah its amazing what a bit of soap and water can do to the percieved value! XD
I would need to spend £200-300 to get her back to her best, or about half that top get her in a safe state for the field. Money I don't have at the mo :(
I still like the idea of selling the engine, and putting a Rotax 122 in it, I even thought about selling the DT and keeping it after, but then I had to slap myself in the face! lol Silly boy..
The AM6 runs fine, so I plan on selling it as it is, my only worry is that after the engine has gone, im going to end up stuck with the rest of it!
Breaking the speedfight has been helping me clear a few debts, but im hoping the rest of the cash it brings in, plus the money from the MH will allow me to get a new project or two in..
