So everyone just picked my first DT up!! YESSS!!! she looks a bit tatty around the edges but nothing to major! the head light unit needs putting back on properly or even a new one because one side has cracked and also the head light needs wiring up, anyone know where everything goes?? the plastics are okay but some are a bit loose so will need some new bolts an washers on to hold them tight! an also the reg plate is bodged on as well so will need a new one of them! ontop of that I can't complain really! a 98 dt125 with wr450 forks on the front with just over 10k miles for £970? anyone else agree with that being a fair price?

Not bad price at all even if it does turn out to need more work than you first thought
Assume you mean 2 stroke, just go for any well priced (around a tenner) fully synthetic coloured oil. There's a few threads about it but on a DT there isn't really a right or wrong unless you put the ****ty £4 stuff in
I just use the £11.49 fully synthetic halfords stuff, as on trade it goes down to around £5 iirc
Sounds like a nice bike. In my opinion, any DTR on the road with tax and mot is good under a grand.
As far as oil.
I use Castrol 2T Power which is a gold bottle, sold in halfords. It's got increased acceleration on it. It's usually about 12.50. Don't go for a cheap oil for the amount you go through its just not worth risking it. an extra couple of quid a time to keep it in good oil is nothing.
The gear oil should be 10/40. Halfords 10/40 is what I use if I'm i cant get down to Yamaha to get some Yamalube 10/40 but its the same stuff really.
plug chop would be advisable as you never know how the last owner has been running it.
When re fitting the plastics be careful of the length of the bolts you use. I've seen tanks with holes straight into the tank where people have just kept turning a bolt and gone right through. The upper mounts on the tank are quite short bolts.
Always as far as im aware. Yeah i think they must have really gone for it but all 4 mounts were straight through into the tank. He was trying to get it running too!
Looks nice mate. Make the most of having that tank and get the new sticker kit from ebay for the plastics and it will make it look even better. If you're ever planning on changing the graphics round I'd be interested in that tank.
Why make the most of the tank? It's just stock ain't it? Haha an yeah it needs some.new.graphics an white backgrounds on the rear pannela
Well for 30 quid you can get a full set of grpahics for that model. Theres a guy called Phillipe on ebay who is from portugal. He supplys them. They arent genuine yam but alot of people buy then. Only thing is that the set doesnt come with the tank stickers and they only match that model tank stickers. Alot of people buy them and stick them on theirs, only to find the tank graphic doesnt line up at all. The 2001 onwards are more light a lightening strike style stickers.
So you can replace al the stickers with the white number boards for 30 quid if you have the right tank. I'm looking at getting the tank stickers made up.
