Thought I'd post this up as bad weather is coming and people doing maintenence on their bikes, also shows you don't need to be riding your bike to badly injure your self.

I don't think I've ever cleaned my chain. I've just sprayed the chain and sprocket with chain lube whilst someone else pushed the bike forward!
To be fair any light oil can be used to both clean and lubricate, I personally use 3in1 aerosol spray oil, the thicker the oil, the easier it is to attract grit and crap from the road, which will get into the chain and be abrasive, resulting in the chain breaking, and theres a big chance you'll end up with more than a couple of damaged fingers, if that ever happens.
what i dont understand is how his fingers got caught up in the chain? surely he could have let go of the rag unless he was doing the bottom inside part of the chain ??
