Rebuilding onto new frame so had the whole loom off, put it all back and there is no spark and not even a voltage going to the coil
Gone over all the plugs 4 times and no problems all connected as they should just gona pitch black so can't do any more today
Looked at the wiring diagram and it comes from the orange cable out of the CDI - I'm not not 100% how they should work but I guess it should be sending 12v with the ignition on? Because it isn't giving anything off at all.. not sure where to go from here any help appreciated
It worked fine before I stripped it so pretty sure I've just done something wrong but can't see what
Start at the generator and check that's working first then work from the generator to the coil. Check all wires and both sides of any connectors/plugs. The manual tells you how to check things like the coil and CDi so check them too.
But ..... if you get p!ssed off with it then walk away, have a cup of tea and a fag and go back to it later
I couldn't do the whole checking the resistance thing, my multi meter must be crap gives such varied results
Haha tell me about it must have gone through about 5 brews today electrics is just one big mind fu**
I had a spare engine and loom of a 92 DTR - plugs are different types and the loom is completely different but with a bit of thinking I manage to make up a few test rigs
To cut a long day short I managed to get it working on my engine but with the other loom and CDI (well sparking, not running was only a basic setup) but couldn't get it working on the other engine and my loom and CDI
So 100% sure it is either the loom or CDI, maybe I ****ed it by messing around not sure. Going to sit down later and go through the whole ignition circuit making sure it's ok, and if so guess it's time to but a new CDI and see what happens.
Anyone know if an 2000 DTR and and RE share the same CDI? I know the loom is different but maybe it's the same unit
