I was driving to work today and it cut out twice on the 10 mile trip. 

It never cuts out,  I keep tabs on the milage so I know when to fill up and I still had about 20 miles of petrol left...

anyway I chucked on the reserve and after a few minutes it started up again.

 

It does sound like the clutch is stuck.  when I accellerate it sounds like its trying to go but cant. 

I must say that my battery is virtuary dead.  I think its the battery. 

anything else it could be.  its only started doing this a few days ago.

Fouled plug?
try replace it

i had a flat battery for about 2 months and my bike ran fine, could be seizing up or blocked petrol tap? check you have the right spark plug aswell, i had a br8es in my bike and after long journeys (30+ miles) the bike used to start getting too hot and the clutch lever would need adjusting, didnt realise i had the wrong spark plug til i blew it up lol
